    Skyfall (November 9, 2012)

    http://www.imdb.com/news/ni3181017/

According to AICN, all development on the next James Bond film has been canceled as MGM continues to deal with its financial problems.

This news shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who has been following MGM’s ongoing troubles. In April, we learned that production on the film was delayed indefinitely.

Still, just because we all saw it coming doesn’t make it sting any less. With Sam Mendes signed on to direct and a “shocking story” from the mind of screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), the latest Bond film was shaping up to be one of the franchise’s best. After the relative disappointment of Quantum of Solace, I was very excited to see how Daniel Craig would fare in his third outing as 007.

The bright side is that the Bond franchise as a whole isn’t going anywhere. It’s simply too popular (and too big of a moneymaker) to disappear completely. If someone swoops in to save MGM, we may yet have a Bond film in the near future. If not, then the franchise will end up somewhere else.
So disappointing, its one of my favorite film series :/ The studio is 3.6-3.7 billion dollars in debt and I've read other articles saying the company is considering selling the Bond franchise off to help repay its debts. Such a shame too cause Daniel Craig was amazing as Bond and the latest one was fucking awesome...

The fuck. I love the Bond series. Especially Daniel Craig. Whoever buys it, if they do sell it, I hope doesn't fuck it up too much.

Wouldn't it be simply publishing rights? I thought the Broccoli family actually owned the rights to produce the films but MGM had the long term deal to co-produce and distribute them.

I could be wrong, but if they do sell them, and at this point I hope they do (because it would mean a new Bond film actually gets made.) It would be funny if they ended up selling to Sony or Warner considering they made that farce of a Bond film with an ancient Connery back in the 80s.

I love the older Bond characters, mainly Connery and my personal favorite Roger Moore. I've been a life long Bond fan and the idea of them selling the rights to the franchise to cover losses is disheartening and sad. Craig is alright, but I think the action and blowing shit up constantly is making the budget aim for the stratosphere with each new release.

I'd like to see them get back to the story and the spy aspect of it, but I know thats not realistic in this day and time where everyone has a short attention span and you have to have something explode every 4 mins to keep people interested. But anyway, MGM needs to get their shit together in a large way because I read a few weeks ago that The Hobbit was behind schedule or something to that effect as well.

    This is terrible.

I love me some spy movies. I havn't seen a solid through and through spy flick for a while, I think the 1st Bond one Daniel Craig did was ok, and the Jason Bourne series. well, sort of for both. There were few parts that had the explosions and shit, but no movie ever hurt from a few explosions.

I can do without the constant mayhem, but I can also do without the EXCESSIVELY sexual jokish Bond. Pierce Brosnan needed punched in the face at times. I liked the wit and subtler, more mature sexual manner of Craig's Bond.

I really liked the psychological aspect behind the latest Bonds, it felt with the Brosnan films (1995(?) - early 2000s) they were struggling for a conflict with the Soviet Union toast. The psychological focus gives the films a much deeper, darker feeling.

Nonetheless, terrible news, and as far the Hobbit goes, Ive heard its been delayed again (several times now).

I wasn't a fan of the last Bond, but Casino Royale was fantastic. So I'm up in the air how I feel about this.

And nothing of value was lost. Another white guy saving the world with trinkets and fucking sloppy high-class vag.

Move on to the next series, please. They'll never surpass Sean Connery anyway.

Honestly I like all the Bond's but Moore, fucking most ridiculous movies. I was okay w/ the movie they did w/ Connery, during the Moore years.

Craig/Dalton are the Bond's closest to Ian Fleming's vision and in all honesty I really liked Quantum of Solace as the middle film in a trilogy, I just think they paced it wrong and should've had the last act of Casino(betrayal by Vesper, tracking down Mr White) be the intro to Quantum with Casino ending maybe at her betrayal and death. Overall though I really hope that the current cinematic vision continues since htey ahd Sam Mendes to direct, a good screenwriter and an interesting female villain.

I remember reading a few months back how production was suspended, and knew this was coming. This is the only series thats older than me, but yet I could still watch every single movie produced without a problem.

Loved Casino mainly cuz it was 110% hardcore all the time. The fights where way brutal and realistic. And Craig being a boss and swallowing that glass full of salt water to throw up that poison. By far my fav bond. Sorry Sean

Had Brosnan not done Goldeneye, he'd be a shoo in for the worst string of Bond movies. I know it comes down shitty writing/directing but DaD and TWINE were cringeworthy.

Moores era of Bond was all over the place with good entries like Octopussy and TMWTGG and bad ones like Moonraker but Brosnan just got a horrible hand of movies to deal with. Moores humor was also all over the place as well but watching Kananga explode is fucking lol however in LALD.

Dalton actually walked away with 2 solid and dark entries without venturing into bad bond territory and TLD remains one of my favorite bond films. I know most people like to bash Dalton/Lazenby but I found both of them to have been lucky by doing few films and thus walking away from the franchise without a bad movie to their name.

I love the Bond series, but I couldn't even get the bf to go see Quantum of Solace with me when it came out b/c he hated the new guy. I liked him, though. Still need to watch QoS someday lol

Also I liked Dalton. I didn't know people "bashed" him. I thought he was a pretty solid Bond.

Fucking this, The Living Daylights/Her Majesty's Secret Service were such perfect movies, and License to Kill was before its time.

IMO, Brosnan was at his best in Goldeneye but Tomorrow Never Dies should not be discounted, the tech, girls, humor and everything were just right before it went ridiculous with TWINE/DAD... only redeeming aspect of those movies was John Cleese as Q/the motorboat sequence at start of TWINE.
