Skyfall (November 9, 2012)

By far the best Daniel Craig-Bond film to date. Finally feels like a good Bond movie.

Brosnan's Bond films didn't do Brosnan-as-Bond justice. His best is still Goldeneye. Tomorrow Never Dies was passable, but TWINE and DAD were almost cartoonishly terrible. And the issue I've had with Daniel Craig is the ridiculousness of the grit with no counterbalance of the absurd. I think Skyfall finally hits that, and it hits it right on the money.

To answer Oreth's & ICs question about Bond's name:

I figured that the reason for that grave scene and the initials on the father's gun was to show that James Bond's real name was in fact James Bond. The early point of the movie was that agent's real names were being revealed publicly. If you know their real names you can find anything about them. Silva sees Bond's parents on the tombstone and he finally realizes, "Well, no wonder...". Well at least that's how I took it.

The gay scene Correction, was intended as a mindfuck for Bond since they don't train you for such as Silva stated. However, like Bond said, he did have experience in such matters.

It wasn't noted at all during the movie but to me it kind of felt like Silva was somewhat the man responsible for the previous two films. He had people everywhere even on the inside (since he was previously on the inside). He was the man up top but you guys are right there are still those others in the middle that have gotten away.

Did some reading and found out this film has nothing to do with the previous two :(

The thing that bothered me most about this movie was how Silva was an ex-operative of MI6 and yet he wasn't of British descent or at least didn't appear so with that Hispanic accent. I figured you'd have to be British to serve. All in all tho, great movie and a little boys dream come true in regards to the whole Goldeneye (man on the inside) baddie thing. This one however was done much better.

Skyfall > Casino Royale >> Quality of Service

QoS wasn't all that bad. It did have three things going for it: the beginning til Mr. White's escape, the secret meeting during opera, and Olga Kurylenko/Polydactyly girl.

Just saw it today and I agree. It was a decent action movie to take a girl too, not too complicated or overwhelming. It was paced ok and not confusing. It's one of the few movies I have told my parents they should go see. No fear of them falling asleep or not understanding or keeping up with it. Not inception or batman oh-yeah-fucking-right-esque. Craig was much more believable. The one liners were decent, the references and digs at past bonds were decent. The action was immediate. The intro wasn't bond-corny.

It's not something I'd want to see 10 times, or even go see again in theaters, but most movies aren't for me. It was worth seeing, worth paying the price for, and it resurrected my faith in Bond movies. I'm happy with it.

It shouldn't bother you as MI6 is an intelligence organization and would need people of different backgrounds in order to carry out that intelligence work.

I was about to say, they had a scene with a person in a middle east terrorist organization getting found out. That would have probably been a pretty hard infiltration for the spy if he looked like james bond.

That's one way to take it, another perspective is that Bond was simply fucking with Silva in kind; Silva tried to come on to him to break his cool, Bond says he's been there and done that, just to show his cool can't be broken.

I think it could go either way (no pun intended), but I like to think that Bond's willing to do anything for Queen and country... even that.

If you think about it, it was unlikely Silva could have been behind the evens of CR and QoS. While he had the means and method, he didn't have any motive. Quantum was in it all for control, Silva built up all those resources for the sole purpose of revenge.

If anything, Silva is the guy Quantum might hire to do some dirt... but he was already so powerful on his own--and so unstable--they might have seen him as a threat, if they knew he existed.

Just came back from this, and I must say it was a damn fine movie. Probably even better than Casino Royale. The story kept me intrigued the whole way, great action, and even great "new" characters.

Just saw it, been away for a bit, browsed the thread, didn't see anything about- why when the psychiatrist asked him what he thought about skyfall he got pissed and walked out (I forgot what what he said exactly, I think he said "done") Casino edged this one out a bit, but very, very close in terms of greatness.

Just finished watching all three for the first time. I didn't realize till after Skyfall that headshot actually killed her, didn't think they would cross into that territory but holy fuck it was good. Casino Royale barely edges it out bc Vesper is a goddess.

You mean when Silva has the gun to both their heads? It didn't kill her, it was the earlier wound, she bled out from it. The gun doesn't even go off in that scene..
