Fuck that, I like Solace's evil villain plot.

Cabal of the world's richest and best connected conspire to control the planet's most precious resource? That's realistic--much more so than holding the planet hostage with a giant laser or nukes or some 1960s comic book shit. Quantum scares me simply because people like them already exist, and a plot like theirs could actually exist... and in the real world, we don't have virtuous super agents to stop them.

I hope Skyfall picks up on that conspiracy but is, you know... a longer film.

Meh, I thought the movie was good, but I don't really want to go to the theater to see something that realistic, that's not why I go see movies or play video games. The QoS plot was something that I could realistically see some major corporation trying to pull off, giant lasers or moonbases are not.

What detracted from QoS was the lack of someone for the audience to direct their malice at and consequently form memories of. The entire movie was forgettable compared to other Bond films which was disappointing considering Casino Royale had gotten it mostly right.

In the Bond cache of villains Dominic Greene just doesn't compare to major villains or even henchmen across the series. I understand he was supposed to be a pawn but we've seen pawns in Bond with more depth and innate villainy have emotional impact. Remember Necros from TLD? Milton Krest from LTK? Oddjob? Jaws? All of them were second fiddles and had more commanding presences than QoS' main villain.

Realistic Plots > Fantasy-tier stuff anyday. Partly why I am so partial to Tim Dalton Bonds but that's just me. I imagine we can all agree on avoiding nauseating experiences like the great abomination that was DAD.

Here we have our first look at Ben Whishaw (Bright Star, I’m Not There, Perfume) as Q in Sam Mendes' Skyfall, thanks to EW. Bond got a complete overhaul starting with Casino Royale, exploring Bond's backstory and ditching the high tech gadgetry for more brutal Bourne-style action. It looks like Daniel Craig is gonna get more toys to play with, now that MI6 is under attack thanks to a looming threat from M’s (Judi Dench) past.

Whishaw is the fourth actor to take on the role of Q. The character was originally played by Peter Burton in the first Bond film, Dr. No. Desmond Llewelyn would take over for the next 17 films, becoming the only actor to appear alongside all the actors who’ve played 007, aside from Craig. After Llewelyn passed away in 1999, John Cleese was promoted from Q's assistant to Q for 2002′s Die Another Day.

Up until now, Q was traditionally played by actors considerably older than Bond himself. Having Q be a much younger character can bring something new and exciting to 007, as well as a long term Q for the next set of Bond actors for decades to come.
