BioWare is pleased to announce the Dragon Age 2 demo coming February 22.

In the demo, players will venture through the game’s prologue, choosing from three different character classes. They’ll also learn more about Hawke and hone their skills and abilities that will make them the ultimate hero. After finishing the prologue, players will enter a key new location in the world of Dragon Age, Kirkwall, befriending Isabela, a romantic interest in the game who is also a deadly smuggler. Upon completion of the demo, players will unlock a special weapon, Hayder’s Razor, an ancient dwarven blade which increases health, mana, and combat abilities, in the full release of Dragon Age II.

How big is the Dragon Age 2 Demo?
The demo is 2GB


What time will the demo be available?
For PC – February 22 at 9am PST

For Xbox 360 – February 22 between midnight and 2am PST

For Playstation 3 users in North America – February 22 between 4pm and 8pm PST

For Playstation 3 users outside North America - February 23 between 4pm and 8pm GMT


Why different times for different platforms?
Microsoft and Sony release their updates on a set schedule.


How do I get the demo for my Xbox 360 or my PS3?
The xbox 360 demo will be available through Live. The PS3 demo will be available through Playstation Network.


I have a Silver Xbox Live account. Does that make a difference?
Slightly. The demo is available for free through both Silver and Gold Xbox Live accounts. The Xbox Live Gold account will have teh demo on February 22. The Xbox Live Silver account will have it one week late.

Where do I get the PC version of the demo?
We will have a link to the demo download on the Dragon Age 2 demo page.


Can we play Male and Female Hawke?
Yes you can choose male or female Hawke.


How long is the demo?
Playtime varies between players, but roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour.


How much story is there in the demo?
Players will experience the prologue to the game and the “Fools Rush In” plot from later in the game.


Is there a character creator with the demo or do we play default Hawke?
No. While you can modify your character in the main game, this is disabled in the demo


Can I change difficulty level during the demo?
The difficulty level for the demo is set as normal.


Does the demo allow you to just start the full version of DA2 from where the demo leaves off?
No. The demo begins with the beginning of Dragon Age II and then shows you a glimpse of a mission that occurs later on in the game.


Can we import from Origins into this demo?
The demo does not have a character or save game import feature.


Will it show off DX11 effects on the PC?
DX11 features will only be available on the PC purchase copy of Dragon Age 2.


How do I get my Hayder’s Razor” item for finishing the demo?
After you finish the demo if you have logged in with or created an EA account you will get an entitlement called Hayder’s Razor which is a Dwarfen Sword which they can use in the main game.


Is Hayder’s Razor available for all platforms?
Yes.

Just something I'm curious about, but does someone get a bonus for garnering a massive amount of preorders? Whether that someone be Gamestop, EA, or Bioware. It seems that certain games try to push up preorder sales by offering different in game shit, Bioware games seem to be the worst offender of this looking at Insanecyclones list.

You know if the game is hugely popular they're going to ship way more units then they'll sell opening day. I've never been unable to buy a game because it was sold out.

So who benefits and how from a big preorder number? Maybe a question for Kyo.

Demo is live on Bioware.com, but the server pretty much immediately crashed due to traffic. I pretty much thought this would happen and will just wait til later.

First of all, not only gamestop sells pre-orders, many other retailers were offering the signature edition prior to Jan 11th, as of last week Amazon had double the pre-orders for DA than GameStop. All pre-orders across all retailers are offering the same weapons, no difference there. However companies like gamestop benefit greatly because of their reserve plan and how it works, that 5 dollars people put down they can use that and invest that and over time make more money. The biggest reason EA tried to lock people in early for the signature edition was to get early manufacturing knocked out so they would not only be ready for launch, get a good idea of interest for future products and how this business model works. So far it has been pretty successful, so look for something like this for Mass Effect 3, in RPG's that are normally gear driven, its easy to make a 108 kb peice of DLC for a game and most RPG gamers love extra loot, so its partly for fan service as well.

Not directed entirely at you, but people have been giving out DLC with games most of this generation, I'm not sure why people give Bioware mostly flack for this, getting free shit is terrible.
