When is this game supposed to take place in relation to DA:O? It seems part of it takes place alongside the start of DA:O
He says something to the effect of seeing a scary old lady with a scary laugh. No name is specifically mentioned.

I love this bioware thing going on, reviewing their own game etc.

Someone mentioned it above... but in Act 3...

the user review hate on metacritic is hilarious, wasn't perfect but wtf @ sub 4 average
Random note: Apparently the Act 3 quest "Who Needs Rescuing?" is currently bugged and not completable.
Atredies showed that to me, I had a chance to rag on him today about it, but man that is super stalker mode.
Got to Act 2 second play through and i really can't be bothered to collect all these Crafting supplies for the trophy.....
The bioware review thing is just /v/ raging, i suppose i cant blame them though.
In terms of mage spells, what are some good ones? So far, the best spell I have is firestorm, the rest just seem like really good crown control but really shit damage (WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU FIREBALL?!)
I don't mind a shift in mage playstyle, since in DA:O you just did whatever you wanted and things died... but having a hard time figuring out what that might be.
Also, healing cooldown sucks balls. Between that and potions, good luck fighting anything that doesn't hit like a child. Hopefully mods fix that.
I've heard that there are already some mods that have modified the healing cooldowns for both potions and healing spells, but not sure where they are. It does suck, but I don't really notice it as much on my second playthrough.. I guess because I just kill stuff before I take too much damage, and have Consume (The reaver health move I believe) to help me out... Although I'm still on Normal mode. Don't exactly want to mess with friendly fire, blah!
I also think they wanted to shift people towards building better/playing safer/positioning and using CC, since you could just sweep with mages and chainchug health pots in DA (I pretty much would have 200 health pots way early in the game after my first playthrough, and just chain chug them). So it's nice, but also a bit of a pain depending on what characters you'd like to take with you. I haven't played a mage playthrough yet, so I'm not sure.. I like the tree that has Crushing prison in it, since you can also grab that barrier move that helps cut incoming damage by like 50% with both points..
In addition, this warrior playthrough is just hilariously fun, I still hate the Act 2 final Boss, Isabela is hilarious as all getout ("Did you ever just stand there in reach, glistening? Mmmm"), and I've rarely used a healer on this playthrough. Just relying on potions or knowing how fast I can cut them down, and having Ave just super tank forever.
Yeah, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that they seem to want us to play this more like Neverwinter Nights-type games: healing is just not that useful and in general you want to try to prevent damage rather than heal damage.
I switched to a 3x Mage 1x Tank party recently, and though I still have a healer, most of the damage mitigation just comes from good use of crowd control. Glyph of Paralysis, Horror, Winter's Grasp with the freeze upgrade, Cone of Cold and Petrify all are a really huge help, especially when you have multiple casts of them in a single party. Always having Mind Blast ready also helps, especially for hard hitting mobs - that Blood Mage guy in Act 2 kept one-shotting my party, so I eventually just stuck all three mages on him and bounced him back and forth between Mind Blasts while I blew his ass up. Never gave him a chance to cast anything.
As far as the damage, I have two of my mages using elemental as the primary DD and just usually have them tag-team shit. Winter's Grasp x2 kills single targets pretty easily, Cone of Cold + Fireball x2 is a lot of AoE damage and Firestorm x2 makes anything that doesn't move out of the way die. I haven't really used them much yet, but the numbers on Crushing Prison and whatever that DD Blood Magic spell was look pretty big as well (both Hawke and Merril's version).
So close to Platinum'ing it.
Spoiler: show
I love Walking Bomb, but you have to pause and take out that target asap for it to be truly effective. You can't go wrong with the Elemental Tree either. I haven't bothered with any of the other specs, they seem rather subpar.
I really don't understand all the rage on the Bioware forums / review sites. Sure, I was disappointed at the length of the game (and only having 1 real city, copy pasted dungeons, etc) but I still found it relatively bug free and fun. If I remember correctly DA2 was in development for what, 8-10 months? I think it turned out rather well for the amount of time it took to make it.
