There was nothing wrong with the battle system in Origins, it just seemed boring to me. On anything less than nightmare all you had to do was hit attack and watch as you awkwardly lumbered over to the target, possibly getting stuck on a bush or something, and used the 1-3 useful skills your class had until stuff died. Nightmare was the same except positioning mattered a lot more. DA2 was largely the same except much more responsive, and many more useful skills many of which were worth using in tandem. That small difference made the battle system in DA2 much more enjoyable to me.

Hahaha, yes, I was of the same opinion! I was constantly thinking "I mean sure, he's pretty emo, but you'd think he'd at least clean the place up a bit!".

I am replaying DA:O right now and I have to say that I actually enjoyed DA:2's combat system much more. It was simpler perhaps, but it felt like your special attacks were far more special. I also liked the focus on one city - I actually had feedback on the previous decisions I had made there. Whereas in DA:O I've run around breaking into houses and stealing stuff from people and generally pissing people off but noone seems to care. Also, thank the gods there wasn't anything as tedious as the Fade bit in DA2. OMG I'd forgotten how bad that section was.

I liked Dragon Age II, a lot actually, and definitely felt I got my money out of it. But compared to DA:O, Mass Effect, or hell even Jade Empire or KOTOR, the story severely lacked cohesion and was missing that movie or great TV series quality Bioware had become known to deliver.

I don't really see how DLC will be much of a help at fixing these core issues.

After doing what you did, I have to say it is one of the best improvements in the game, though I do miss the tougher enemies. I'd rather fight a few stronger enemies then the over abundant wave cannon fodder system they use now. That and nightmare should be harder. The only class I had much issue in nightmare was 2H War, as I had a really hard time not killing my own members accidentally(I found I had to use warding armor runes matched to whatever weapon my 2H was using to keep the party alive)

Surprised this DLC focus's on Hawk since all the other post-game DA:O DLC had to do w/ other characters to separate it from the main game

And I hated that about them so I'm glad I get to use my character.

Uh there were just as many that continued to place the focus on the warden then there was that didn't. You had darkspawn chronicles and the Leliana one that had no warden but Golems, Awakening, and the Morrigan one that all focused on the Warden still.

Hope they give me a new healer mage in this DLC. Both Bethany and Anders are dead on my Warrior character's gamesave. Though at least I can /console them into the party I guess. Feel bad for any xbox/ps3 players in this predicament.

lol, i didn't even think about that. I have bethany left on my rogue's save, but she is such a shitty healer your better off just using healing pots

    That actually looks pretty good.

Then again, DA2 looked amazing too.

I'll probably still grab it since I'm holding on to the original this time.

Someone brought up a good point on another forum. DA2 was missing the big moments that DA:O had.

Take for instance Hespith's chant... that section was creepy as fuck and set a strong precedent for the game. DA2 didn't really have anything like that.

DA2 also lacked the Fade shapeshifting sequence. That's a good thing because that entire portion of the game kept me from replaying DA:O more than once.

I'll say it a million more times if necessary. Skip the Fade is the best mod ever made for DA:O

What was so wrong with the fade in DAO? Gave u all those attribute points and wasn't really that long.

It was neat the first time around but annoying each playthrough after that because a) it took so long and b) it killed all the momentum in the story

fade was terrible, most ppl didn't like it. And who cares if it gave you attribute points, that doesn't make it good. And I think it gave you a pathetic amount of skill points anyways for that to be the main driving force. It was just a pure gimmick from the start and, most importantly, it took away from the main plot of the game for well over an hr and essentially put you into a mini-game
