I am looking for a group like you describe. I can be hardcore at times, playing all day / night but overall I just want to be around people that are friendly and want to have a good time. Plus we have a baby boy on the way and he is going to be number 1 on my priority list for sure.

It sounds like it could be a good fit for me in FFXIV. Do you have any players in the Beta? Which server should I create a character if I want to meet up with them?

We do! We have a vent set up and they sign on and talk about it in there, in fact. If you sign up on the forums, you could probably PM them for that info, I won't post it here for obvious reasons. Hope you check it out!

I don't think the official servers have been announced. If I remember correctly, FFXI beta had different servers than release. I think they were also named after big baddies. But as soon as they are announced, we will decide on one.
