This. Christ made HIV as a deterrent against gayness, to protect believers from the evils of the gay agenda. So far it's worked. Just like the death penalty prevents murders, HIV has kept millions of people from making the choice to go gay. Now these Godless atheist ivy league liberal scientists are trying once again to undo the Lord's work and unleash His wrath upon us. I'm constantly amazed by the Lord's mercy with these heathens, instead of sending them to be tortured now He lets them continue their heretical work to further damn themselves. That's why I know I still need the bible class twice a week, because if I saw one of these arugula eating atheists on the street I'd send him straight to hell where he belongs.

If I wasn't so sure that pharmacy companies would strike this down since it tanks their cocktail drug business, I would say this was great.

Of course, even if they take to the idea, they will charge more for this treatment than any normal person could afford... and unfortunately it's those that would need it the most.

Pharmaceutical companies have been preparing for this for years. Their whole niche is pretty much constantly under attack from generics becoming available... they'll be fine.

Edit: wanted to clarify... by "they'll be fine" I mean they'll be prepared to make a fortune on this by giving it a price tag that will make it available to the largest percentage of the population as possible... assuming it pans out, which is always a uphill climb.

How long and healthy do people with HIV/AIDS live these days, anyway? Other than a very basic understand of how the virus works and spreads, I know very little about it.

It is very varied depending on the lifestyle you live. I think it was about 10 years after infection with HIV last time I did it in Biology but obviously if you're in a country without a herd immunity against a lot of diseases it could be a lot shorter.

Now that is something worth reporting. From "human cells" in a lab to "rhesus monkeys" in a lab.

In vitro studies are never as promising as in vivo studies. I'm glad to see they're making progress. Don't expect to see this make any kind of impact for another 10 years, because it still has to be regulated by the FDA - and that's after they get it working in humans.

It's bullshit that this won't help the people it really needs to - the millions infected that are actually really fucking poor.

RE FDA approval: I dunno. given some of the side effects of HIV Meds that came out in the 90's / are out now anything short of killing the patient might pass. And then that depends on how the person dies.
