hey, i got thick legs, and i didnt need to bike a million miles a day to get it! squats/deadlifts ftw baby! i focused primarily on legs for at least 1 month just so my body would look more proportioned when i got naked. baggy clothes can only do so much, but i want to look like my goals with my clothes off. and besides, i dont wear much baggy clothes anymore.

but fo-cerealz. guys with big arms/big legs and a nice waist isnt SO bad, is it? seriously, woman around here only like guys who look like white africans

Guys with big upper bodies and noodle legs are always good for a laugh though. I'm amazed some of the local ones can hold themselves up.

Come to think of it, most all the people I know have noodle legs. All of them are pretty active sport-wise too. Wonder what's up with that.

Noodle legs? I probably fit that category, but I'm skinny all around. Although I'm having a hard time imagining what you're describing.

My upper legs are pretty large, from all the biking, but since I put in 60-80 miles per week and my lower legs get nothing in comparison, it looks REALLY out of proportion in the mirror. upper is like x6 the size of lower.

oh man, we all do. im no better than the next guy, but i sure do have a sense of humor when i see people who look like a RL Mr incredible. legs are incredibly fun to work out, and beneficial, especially since your abs get some progress in there too. It helped me a lot with my waistline going down a few. but man, your glutes feel like they have a bulletproof butt vest on

Ah I got it now. Yeah I see a few of those guys working out in the gym at school. Pretty sure they just like to bench press all day because I rarely see them doing squats.

No. Thing with Mr Incredible is he STILL has muscular thighs, just animated to have a bigger chest. I'm thinking more like this:

Chin-ups is palms facing you. Here's a good post about it: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...99&postcount=7

edit: @Wintermute--What kind of activities do the people you know do? Perhaps it's something like this http://www.crossfitoakland.com/old_s..._sprinter2.jpg ? The classic "marathon runner vs sprinter" body composition comparison.

People I know tend to be skaters/rollerbladers/BMXers mostly (lots of jumping about and a fair share of sprinting and running) but they swim, play a few games of Football (soccer), and a few even hit the gym so they get good workouts but they've got no muscle mass at all.

It's not quite the Marathon vs Sprinter thing since I'm active in pretty much all the same activities but it just boggles my mind that they barely have any muscle and I'm rocking freakshow legs in comparison.

@Cream: If you need to even out the legs you can do calf-raises any time you're just standing around.
Can add some water bottles or whatever for extra weight later on.

Just don't overdo it or your legs will be fucked for days.

running kills your muscles like no other. i never really paid attention to it, until art was telling me about it lol. my fav cardio are elliptical machines on incline but i get in a few spin classes here and there

but he is right. you NEVER see any buff marathon runners. those guys need to eat like 3k+ cals a day to maintain their physique lol

Hmm. Perhaps it's in their diet then? Not enough protein/fat and too much carbohydrates (especially from grains/bread/pasta/etc)? I don't know. OR it could just be human/genetic differences.

@Rich: Isn't elliptical basically the same thing as running, but on a machine? >_>

But it's the overall stress it causes on your body and hormonal levels (especially cortisol excretion) that kills your muscles, not really the impact on your heels/feet. At least if you're not doing it at a high heart rate for a long period of time most days than not, it's ok. Steady state high level of cardio on the elliptical is still doing the same as running, but may be less harsh on your joints.

i do HIIT. remember? i try to keep as much muscle as i can when i DO the cardio. and im never going to stop doing cardio... plus the HIIT on it is really nice for those uphill incline settings lol. im a bigger guy anyways, i would rather be doing it on an elliptical lol. EVERYONE needs cardio. bulking/toning/whatever. to NOT do cardio is just plain stupid. HIIT for 10 min before lifting is still better than going into a gym and lifting.

I work out almost exclusively on a heavy bag. I don't like lifting weights at all.

Although, to be fair, I'm recovering from an injury that had me down for about a week. Normally use a 90 or 100lb bag (supposed to be half your body weight, I go a little higher since a good solid kick will send a 70lb bag and its stand off the floor) but the Y I signed up at has a 140 or 150lb bag which is how much I weigh.

Didn't treat it with the caution I should've and really injured the left side of my upper body.

I know if you don't have access to a gym you probably won't have access to a bag, but if you can track down a friend with one or something I highly recommend it. It won't make you big and muscular but it's really good exercise.
