Here's a question:

What are people finding to be their best experiences in Abyssea EXP mobwise? Ive noticed recently that even with an ideal party im usually only breaking even on visitant after capping pearl/azure lights.

Occasionally I'll walk out with 100ish+ mins but back that seems a far cry from the 300mins+ ive seen some people claim to get.

Ive tried pretty much every type of mob (mandy, coeurl, bats, frog, gnoles, bugards, lizards) but no dice on any of those magic 300min+ parties.

Tips? Usually start with pearl lights then work on capping azure and then ruby for the EXP.

Doing azure first, then pearl, and then a lot of azure again to get a ton of time buffer tends to do it for me.

It's just a matter of dumb luck combined with good groups. You can fight (and I have fought) the same mobs day after day with the same group and get screwed on time chests one day and walk out with hours of surplus time the next.

That said, my largest time on exit came from frogs.

my best has been worms in la theine. i'd only exit with say, 100 minutes, but you said you were wanting exp not mass time? I went from 75-80, max exp at 80, and 9 merits on worms in the time it took mamool ja savages to go from 1 - attacking al zhabi, which is pretty fucking fast.

edit: nvm, misunderstood what you were asking. worms still give a buttload of time, but at it's base, shit's random.

General consensus on # of lights to cap azure/pearly? Abyssea thread is 50+ pages at this point...I've seen 20/20, 24/24, 30/30....anyone really know?

Where is there good evidence to support Counter has an accuracy check built into it, I believe that it does, I'm just wondering how it was 1st discovered or assumed.

How were worms (full ally? setup?) and more importantly how did you avoid linking Megamaw Mikey?

very very squishy (as all worms are), and their stoneagas are weak as shit. like 210 dmg per person for stonega 3 without barstone. Megamaw is only up half the time; he's still killed fairly regularly, and even if he is up, each worm should only take 15 seconds at most to live, so you can keep moving away from him fairly well. The best part is, the worms love to group up, so if you have like 3 blms break off the main ally and -aga worm groups, you'll get 3,000+ xp in one shot. (worms cap at 610xp each).

It's the dirty little xp secret no one goes to, but the camp is fucking fantastic. Drop rate on platinum ore from the worms is decent too.

edit: full ally, probably 4-5 blms if you can. 1 or 2 to stay with the alliance sleeping adds and killing worms, the other 3 or so to break off like i said above.

How do you filter wyverns and other pets out of the chatlog? I'm sick of pets and fellowship NPCs' actions clogging my chatlog when I'm maging it up.

Probably someone realized they had a 5% counter rate with CS on against a thf mob.

Just got my new pc up and running, how would I go about installing FFXI on it? Is it available online, or will I need the original disks?

You could torrent it if you don't have the original disks. You can also copy the files over from your old pc and do this

I do have the disks, but Im also on windows 7. I installed the POL viewer for windows 7 off playonline.com, but when I tried to install via the discs, it said I couldnt due to having POL installed already.

run the installers on the disks manually.

If you have vanadiel collection 2008+, the disks are already compatible with win7. If you have an older collection or the original disks, the install menu wont even run.

Install POL from the playonline download, then BROWSE the cd. There should be folders called "install" "Instal2" etc.. Inside each, there is a setup.exe. Install them in order. Since you already got POL from the website, there is no need to instal Playonline viewer from those CDs, which sounds like you tried to do.

If my native resolution is 1680x1050, what are some background resolutions I can set to make the game look the highest quality?

Can I also see some lower to medium resolutions in that ratio if I want to multi-box and set low res instances to minimize lag.

3360x2100 for best quality.

For lower quality, you can set it to 1680x1050, or 840x525.
