Anyone have a strat on how to low man Adze or Chukwa?

I went 1/1 on it, and I've heard mostly people having pretty high drop rates on it. The wyrm that drops it didn't seem too tough, but I'm not much help in that department since I didn't really get to fight it, only finish it off from 20% or so when some other group wiped.

No, you need to install the expansions. The only thing downloaded for them is the gear, spells, etc etc that can be used/seen without having it installed.

This would be a valid point if there was any unique content for the three addon packs, but all the content takes place in areas that already exist (so no new areas, no new cutscene dialog tables) with models that already exist. I think the only unique thing about any of them is the new moogle models in the moogle expansion.

Regardless, when I registered mine off some Steam registration codes (without installing anything), I had nothing new to download at all.

Expansions are rotz, cop, toau, wotg, which need to be installed seperately, addons are acp, mkd, asa, and abyssea, and do not need to be installed seperately.

I personally like ascetics for high def targets. Highest I did in xarc tonight was about 14xx as /nin with only brutal. Asuran was bleh, howling was ok, but I find ascetic better in situations like that.

A. Did you get PDT gear on in time? It makes a pretty decent difference.

B. Are you 75 or 80? Losing out on the accuracy from levels hurts in abyssea, especially if you don't have top notch gear.

A. Yes, although its possible it switched too late.
B. 75, but I can't see it being possible at 80 without Slow II/Para II/Blind. Unless I had dodge up I didn't evade a thing.

Gonna go back with Sam/nin + Rdm + Whm or Brd and try it again.

As Rehn said, it has a reputation of doing well against very high defense targets. It's also on the opposite side of Light from Dragon Kick. Not really a critically important weaponskill, though.

2 mages, when the mob 2hrs, 1 kites, 1 nukes, repeat, get drops (chukwa)

for adze we just threw 3 dd/nin's brd rdm whm, but can definately comfortably drop a DD.

Valley of Sorrows might be a tad better, as the raptors are easier to find there. They're pretty spread out in Teriggan - and a lot of people kill them for FoV.
