I have been hearing that Having Capped H2H skill + faith torque pushes you into a new damage tier. I feel silly, but what exactly does this mean? And is it true?

Hand to Hand damage is calculated differently than other weapons in the game. More specifically, the damage you see on the weapon is added on top of your natural hand to hand damage, which is calculated by skill. IIRC, the formula was something like ( [ skill * 0.11 ] + 3 ). I forget how it rounds, but I'd assume it floors.
Bare fists have a DMG rating based on H2H skill (wearing a weapon adds to this, which is why H2H weapons say DMG:+x instead of DMG:x).
The relevant tiers are:
39 DMG: 328 skill
38 DMG: 319
37 DMG: 310
36 DMG: 300
35 DMG: 291
Capped H2H and faith torque would not put you in a new tier (assuming you're talking about MNK) because the cap is 301 skill and faith would put you at 308, which are both 36 DMG. What you're probably paraphrasing is that 5+ merits would put you at 37 DMG, 6+ merits and torque would put you at 38, and full merits+torque+H2H hachimaki would put you at 39.
Yea, i forgot full merits, thanks!
Working on STR 1-hand axe for magian trial. I'm on apkallu which has capped hate for sure, doing the run away thing.
The only way to kill them that I can see is to have some nukers come along and nuke them dead @ 30%.
Is there any other way? any suggestion is welcome thanks.
About to start on Amano's bird killshot trial and I was wondering if that's a suggested target that's less annoying than Colibri. A few people mentioned Marshe Murres near Nashmau, but I'm not sure there will be enough pops to keep constantly killing with Marchx2 + Haste.
Edit - It's the Bird family, so bats count, too.
Did Murres for my Amano trial, theres 5 up top, 1 on the path down, one below that, and one down near the imp. If you want to get fancy, a Brd friend of mine went down past the QQ area and pulled 3 more when they were helping me, idk where they came from though. However, when they were giving me double march and haste, killing the main 8 plus the run back it was pretty damn close to exactly 5 mins for the first repop. Was usually waiting on pops, but once you get a rhythm down its cake. Plus no Feather Tickle, always a bonus. That being said, id say for at least half of my trialing (I trialed at night), there were JPs or some jackass trialing something different, and people trialing their Radennotachis love to come there and fuck your shit up and wont PT cuz they just need WSs. Took about 35 hours to do with a PL, was the best camp for birds easily.
Do they have much less HP than Flamingos in sky or something? Flamingos should be EPish at 80 and there are unholy hoards of them. Plus signet bonus.
Marsh Murres are 8 levels lower in range, as a general rule for trialing i dont fight anything 70+ cuz it takes too long to kill. Couple that with the fact that theres never any more than 4 Flamingos in a grouping of them before you have to travel some kind of long distance to get to another group (except maybe the entrance but thats constantly being camped by trialers as well). Murres are definitely the way to go imo. With the usual well-geared Amano WS build I was comfortably killshotting from 40%. I dont imagine you could kill from that high on Flamingos with any kind of reliability.
Running away is nowhere near capped hate. Monk can handle having 2-3 Apkallu beating on them if they know what they're doing, but I'm guessing you're Warrior and that makes it a bit dicey. If you can bring any kind of mage along, when the little blighter runs off, Sleep it for ~15 seconds, then wake it up. It'll stop trying to find a friend and will resume beating on you or your mage.
Ok thanks for the advice.
If you're on bst, I teamed up yesterday with a JP bst who was using the new sheep pet to Sheep Song them when they tried to run away or ganged up, or if they ran away at very low HP they used Mistral Axe to finish them off.
Was the relationship between DA and KA ever determined?
What are you subbing? What is the BLM subbing? I've heard (not witnessed) that if you use any white magic, even if you don't actually get the spell off, the Apkallu will snap into I-can't-stand-white-magic mode and not take his beady little eyes off the person who casted it, giving him a much lower chance to run away. Try it with a Cure 1 or a Dia or something, see how it works. If not, there's always still sleep.
I know its been covered many times, but I need a good strategy for prudence.
I've heard you can get one prudence to low HP, force the second prudence to depop and kill the first one as it opens it's mouth before it goes into rape-ga mode. How's this done?
