Jersey Turnpike.
OP, I used to drink Screwdrivers, Madras, and Vodka Cranberries whenever we went out freshman year. They're light and taste like juice, and will eventually get you drunk. Long Island Iced Teas and Adios Motherfuckers will do it a lot faster, and they taste pretty good too. If you're going to drink beer, since it sounds like you're not a beer drinker yet, get a nice summer ale (Sam's is awesome, but there are others around which are pretty good) or a wheat beer like Blue Moon or Hoegaarden since they've all got a nice flavor and don't actually taste as much "like beer".
The drunken asshole in me wants to tell you to funnel and do kegstands all day, and honestly you'll have a blast if you do, but if you're not a drinker, seriously start slow and get heavier as the night goes on, you don't want to be blacked out by 5pm. Stay buzzed all afternoon, black out at 10, wake up next to some girl you've never met before with a massive headache, and you'll have had a successful birthday.
itt: people bragging about how cool they are with their alcohol knowledge and suggest outrageous retarded drinks/hangover experience.
if you're turning 21 and you're going out then you're probably going to be with friends, who will probably buy you drinks.
Sorry to hijack but I'm not starting my own thread. Noticed a few people already mentioned some of these but I'm looking for more.
Trying to find some non-feminine mixed drinks that I can order at a bar and NOT get made fun of. Typically I drink lagers, but I rather something stronger (my bars dont carry dogfish sadface). I do drink goose&tonic, and sometimes stoli-o&redbull... but vodka has noticeably given me the worst hangovers. I HATE jack/whiskey. I'm not a big hard liquor drinker at all, I hate doing shots and shit... and long island ice teas are too expensive and girly. Any suggestions that don't taste like shit and aren't bright fucking red like bloody marys? I have a GREAT taste for beer, as I mentioned, dogfish and a few other IPA's, as well as stella... but yeah.
I hate the smell and taste of both captain&coke and jack&coke, almost died from jack one time can't even smell it now or I'll gag. I will say that 3olive Rootbeer + 3olive Vanilla + Gingerale is fucking amazing though. But like mentioned, vodka gives me the worst hang overs.
As for the actual thread:
My friend turned 21 last week. We took him to a bar with the intention of getting him to puke either in his sisters car on the way home, or at his house after. His drink order was a shot of jack > shot of patron > shot of jameson > shot of cuervo gold > (lol so far) > a blow job > irish car bomb (lol, this one was hard for him) > finishing all of our beers when they started to get warm or we just wanted a new one > a shot of water with grenadine in it, we told him it was tequila as he was starting to get sick lol > i forget what else, this was all in about 15 minutes, don't think he remembers the rest of the night. I know he had at least a bloody mary before leaving.
How can you ask for advice about what drinks to order and not get made fun of then turn around and say you won't drink brown liquors?

A lot of nights I do not remember.
Sounds like you like your mixed drinks a little on the girlie side, by your definition.
Have you considered Southern Comfort? It's easier on the stomach, mixes great with tonic and with soda, and if you refer to it as "SoCo" in a non-obnoxious way, you sound like you know what you're talking about.
But if you have a taste for beer, why do you care about moving to liquors? Beer is great, and last time I checked, it's harder to hurt yourself when drinking beer instead of liquor.

^ no but really, scotch.
I prefer stronger microbrews that most bars don't carry, so I figured I'd try mixed drinks since miller lite tastes like water to me. I have no problem drinking stellas all night by any means.
I've never had southern comfort outside of shots (with lime). Only reason I have trouble with jack is that I've gotten deathly sick off it. Captain + coke is too sweet. I really have no problems with vodkas at all, like i said I love stoli-o, goose n tonic, 3olives, and if it comes down to just having more mixed options via vodka I'm fine with that. Can deal with the hangovers, have up until now lol. Just need some more variety I suppose.
@ scotch, only had it once pregaming at a football game. I was told that you have to drink one glass to numb your mouth so you don't taste the rest lol.
SoCo + coke is reeeeeallllllly sweet. If you don't like spiced rum with coke you're not going to like SoCo with it.
Edit: A couple more vodka drinks that aren't girly would be white russian (fucking love those) and red bull and vodka.
Edit2: Errr, how about gin?
Marry me. Fuck I need to buy some scotch :c
Sorta serious question, is alcohol really not a big deal til you turn 21 in the states? I mean, the drinking age is 18 here but I was drinking beer since I was 15, so it wasn't like my 18th was an introduction to booze for me, was just night to get fucked up ;/ WHich obviously wasn't a first either.
Rye and coke/ginger/spirte/water is the mans-pussy drink. Can't ever taste the booze, my stomach gets upset from the pop before I get upset with the rye D:
It doesn't really matter though, like others have said, you're not going to be buying your own drinks anyways all night. Unless your friends are assholes.
We start drinking at the same age as anyone else, we just have to either get fake IDs or wait until we're 21 to do it in bars and clubs.
@ edit1 yeah I drink tons of redbull and vodka, stoli-o if its available.
And to be honest, I've never once had gin lol. Whiskey sours now that I think of it (haven't had one since I was in my teens) were good... don't remember how girlie they were though. The 3olives rootbeer+3olives vanilla+gingerale really isn't all that girlie. It looks just like any other clear vodka drink... but then again it tastes just like a cream soda without alcohol.
Also, my stomach doesn't get upset with hard liquors. I just haven't found something that I've enjoyed really, and there is a couple brown ones that I plain dislike.
Nothing that contains a large amount of whiskey is girly. Hell go to a bar with your friends and order a Maker's Mark Manhattan. It comes with a fucking cherry in it, but if anyone tries to call you out on it, offer them a sip.
Go to a bar and order a Ramos Fizz. If the bartender is over 70 they might know what you mean. I make them at home and theyre fucking delicious... but it's impossible to find a bartender who knows what they are outside of a 5 star hotel. And truth be told, you shouldn't really order one in a bar anyways since it's such a pain to make. You gotta do this shit yourself.
Off the top of my head it's:
Gin
Simple syrup (sugar and water)
Milk
Egg White
Orange flower water
Lime Juice
Lemon Juice
Top with soda or seltzer
Seriously old school. Predates Sidecars/Manhattans/World War I, etc. Try one.
