So for the last 1 year i've had a cat. In her entire lifetime, she's been outside for about 10 minutes of it. But recently a friend's dog came into our place and gave her fleas. For the past 2 weeks, she started behaving very odd and attacked me for no apparent reason. She never did that ever before, soft bites sure, but now she was going all out, growl, hiss, go OM NOM NOM NOM on any piece of skin she could find. So I decided to toss her out.

She has no idea wtf outside is. I'm a huge, huge cat lover, and I hate myself for doing this. But now that she has flea, she just can't come back in. She's at my window right now, looking at me, not understanding wtf, she looks like she's starving, but I gave her food away.

So all this just to ask... Does she has a chance to survive and somehow remember she can hunt for food, or will she just stare at me and starve to death?

This has got to be a troll post/topic because this is some seriously retarded shit. Let your cat back in the house and buy some damn flea stuff. As for the behavior thing the cat is probably all itchy and irritated fix the fleas will probably fix the biting. And buy the cat some toys and treats.

Oh yeah and stating the obvious, you don't abandon domesticated animals outside just because you don't like them. Yeah the cat MIGHT be able to survive but that is illegal (in a lot of areas) and inhumane. If you don't like the cat take it to a shelter and they will take care of it and find it a good home.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I want to point out that this is a semi-misconception with a lot of cat owners. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE HANDLE AS A CAT. It is a kitten-only handle. It shrinks as they get older, and at about 2-3 years there is only a small bit of skin there that is not meant to be lifted up with.

You can use it to hold them still (common vet tool), but it is really going to hurt the cat if you pick it up this way.

Not saying anyone does, but I hate it when I see people doing it and think it's ok.

The bites and scratches are the least of my worries. There's a 5 years old here. She's ALWAYS been nice to everyone, and that strange behavior change had me worried. Why in the first place did she decide to attack me. I do not punch them like it's been said in this thread, I did not stop feeding her, she has toys, I play with her. There was absolutely no reason for that change.

As i've said, now that I know she won't survive, i'll take care of her somehow. Matter of fact i'm letting her in right now.

This pretty much sums up the OP.

and the edit is even more truth, why own something that you know will cost money to maintain and happy when you cannot afford it? Unless their is more to this then you are telling us because from the sound of it, you'd rather starve an animal that is used to living inside a house and being fed rather having it go outside and find food on its own.

I know animals are not retarded, I'm sure she could go find some water, but doubtful that she'd get any real food in her.

Cats don't go bat shit crazy on you in the snap of a finger, I've owned several cats in my life, Persian, Calico, Dwarf, and Tabby, my Persian got fleas once, and it was taken care of for about 100-150$ cant remember it's been so long, and Persian cats are known to be kinda bitchy, but I've never heard of a cat just going insane the way you mention it, you had to have done something to it, to just out of nowhere attack you as you claim(playful soft bites, but then suddenly ninja cat comes out of nowhere and claws the shit out of your back?! what?) OP is hiding something I think from us, I think he abuses animals :/

Well, that is a picture of a mother mouthing the entire NECK, not just the skin.

Some cats do still have the excess kitten skin handle, but I meant the spine itself. If a cat is lashing out, getting a grip on the side without claws as close to the back of the head as possible will reduce the possible injuries you or the cat will take, and let you restrain it if need be.

Don't just haul them around like this all the time, but definitely make use of it if you're trying to restrain one, you can't restrain a cat by the limbs (too flexible/they'll injure themselves), the front (hello pointy end), or the tail (seriously, don't do that, there are nerves you WILL damage in there), so you gotta go with what you got.

This can't be re-stated enough you will hurt a full grown cat if you attempt to pick it up that way. When they do it at a vet they use it as a tool to scruff the cat and control their head movement but not actually let the cats body weight hang from their scruff.

Also are we sure this isn't a troll thread?

Cats need exercise and stimulation the cat is probably trying to play with you. Buy it a toy and pay attention to it and the attacks will probably stop.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you really want to take care of this cat. But

    a) if that's true, you phrased the OP horribly. no shit everyone's jumping on you, what you said basically amounts to: I tossed my cat out because it got fleas, will it survive on its own?

    b) never - under any circumstances, ever, for any reason under the sun - toss a cat out unless it has been outside since birth. it will die. it's not a question of if, it's a question of when. man-made causes like cars. other animals. diseases, especially if it doesn't have shots - feline leukemia is unbelievably contagious, to the point that your cat can catch it from walking over the same ground as an infected cat that was there several hours ago. suffice it to say, outdoor cats must be outdoor cats from birth, and even then they need to have all their shots, and even THEN there's a good chance the cat just won't come back some day (i.e. it'll be dead).

so yeah, if you really don't want to be looked at as a ruthless cold-hearted bastard, take the cat back inside. or at the very least, confine it to a small area outside or even better, in your house (like the basement) until you can get it treated. the cat will be miserable but it will be alive.

and it sounds like the cat needs a check-up, as soon as you can afford it. yes, it's expensive, but being a pet owner isn't free. people who take on pets they can't afford and let them die at the first sign of any expenses beyond $50 are people who should be banned from pet ownership for life. I can understand not being able to afford it, vet bills are expensive, but if you can't afford it you shouldn't have a cat, because vet bills WILL happen with anything bigger than a rabbit.

as far as behavioral problems go: it could be a lot of things. it could be physical illness. it could be depression/other issues (sounds crazy but when a cat experiences trauma, like if there's another cat in the house and one of them dies, they can experience sever behavioral changes). it could be the cat is just playing and doesn't know that what it's doing is wrong. there's a lot of shit it could be. hard to know without knowing more about the cat itself: age, how long it's been with you, whether this has ever happened before, whether anything has happened to the cat recently.

You own an real, live, motherfucking animal, and you can't afford $100 to take care of its health?

    Go.

    Fucking.

    Kill.

    Yourself.

There are few things in this world fucking stupider than the situation you've put yourself in. Seriously, you can justify sticking your cock in a paper shredder more than you can justify owning an animal that you can't afford to take care of.

At least cockless you won't be able to procreate and do the same thing to a child.

People are so fucking stupid it makes me want to vomit uncontrollably.

As I said I didn't mean you do it, just that I wanted to clarify it, because it's a pet peeve of mine.

And as I said you can hold them still with that bit in the neck, which is actually very effective.

If you grip it firmly and hold them down to a laying position, they won't move out of it. This is how you give them a shot.

Again not the only method, just one I find rather useful/easy if you need to hold a cat down.

When your 5 year old gets chicken pox or poison ivy, are you going to throw him/her outside, dispose of the food then come ask BG if it was the right thing to do?

I mean, fuck shit god fucking damn, I want a puppy Rottweiler more than I want to take my next breath, but I cannot motherfucking afford it and it's completely irresponsible of me to subject an animal to a sub-par life for my own benefit.

    Seriously.

    Remove yourself from the populace.

Wait, that isn't how you cure chicken pox or treat poison ivy?

I always thought it would be amusing if people had kitten handles as babies, seeing women hauling infants around in their mouths would be quite comedic.

There was absolutely no reason for that change.
As most others pointed out already:

The cat has flees...... flees bite and piss the cat off (just like they piss humans off if they bite us).

The cat could also have an injury, they will typically put them on edge already.

I've got another question now, why the fuck keep raging. If you think I didn't feel bad I wouldn't have made OP in the first place. Now I let her in, and I will most likely go see the vet if prices are reasonable.

But I am not shitting you when I say that means i'm gonna eat kraft dinner for the next 2 weeks if I even get a chance to.

She says hi. (It's the camera time that's wrong, this picture is 5 minutes old(she wasn't even born then))

My grandparents bred them. When I was young I had the cutest puppy rotty ever. Want

I live in a small 3rd floor apt. though at the moment, no place for a dog that big. It'd be hell for them.

Step 1: Drop the cat off at a no-kill shelter.

Step 2: Sit down in the middle of a highway.

pretty much. reminds me of young poor girls who have a baby because they think it will enrich their lives and make them feel loved. oh yeah, it will for a while, right up until it shits all over you and pukes on your nicest outfit and then run up a couple thousand dollars in doctor's bills.

not everyone's raging. like I said, I don't think you're an evil person, but you phrased the OP pretty horribly, and you made a bad decision by putting it outside in the first place. but it sounds like your heart is in the right place, even if your brain wasn't at the time

also, she's adorable. I'd wave to the kitty if it wouldn't be the gayest post I've ever made.
