Also, keep in mind that everyone tries to dress as good as possible for interviews, so people you compete for the position will likely be in a decent suit. Not having blazer may get you in a disadvantage.

A suit is a MUST. Once you make some money, buy the best you can unless you are rich enough to afford wearing cheap suit.

Every man should have a suit. I agree with the above, when you get some money buy one. They are timeless and you don't have to worry about what to wear when there is a wedding/funeral/etc. A nice suit is the one thing you never have to worry about going out of style.

What I'm always curious about is I always (as the interviewee) go with the firm handshake but the interviewer's handshake is weak, which makes everything feel so weird. You'd imagine they would have a firm and proper handshake, too.

This bugs the fuck out of me. I go in for the kill basically every time I go for a handshake since I grew up going to parties with the CEOs of corporations such as CVS, Dunkin Donuts, Ocean Spray, etc. Those guys do not fuck around when it comes to handshakes and if you have a weak one they comment on it, often.

Now whenever I meet someone in a business-style setting (although it seems to happen more in academia, fuckin' professors) if they have a weak handshake it throws me for a loop badly. I feel like I'm going to break their hand and I kinda panic, lol.

Could always watch a Law & Order episode for good opinions on how to dress up professionally (color combination, etc.). Can't really go wrong with that.

More for the women than for the men. Jack in most seasons tends to kinda be "middle-class" suit style, while the women (particularly Rubirosa and Southerlyn) dress in very, very expensive suits.

lol, same thing for me. I always feel incredibly awkward if the guys handshake is like that of an 80 year old woman. I felt bad one time because I went in with the typical strong handshake and fail ensues, but I had momentarily forgot the guy had cancer and was doing chemo at the time lol. Oh well, I got burned one too many times early on getting my hand raped, it will not ever happen again.

Consider it an investment in your future. There is very little else you can spend under $500 on that will have such a large impact on the quality of life you're able to provide for yourself.

Also, borrow a car if you can. It probably won't matter at all but on the offhand that someone sees you walking out to a car with a broken AC and the like, it doesn't inspire trust when it comes to a bank employee.

Desperate for money people around a loooot of money is not good for their insurance.

Doesn't have to be super nice, but if it were me I'd want the guy in a 2004 Hyundai over the guy in the 1982 Corolla if the interviews were similar. Better peace of mind.

Go to fucking Goodwill for a suit, seriously. I got my job and I did my interview in wearing one from there. They're not going to know you spent $20 or whatever or a jacket and slacks.

As for dress, I would assume banks aren't as casual as other jobs since their whole thing is to be super professional, so shirt and tie at minimum, jacket if you can afford it. If not, there are other jobs you can get hired at with just shirt and tie for interview.

For the interview, just relax, but don't be too relaxed. When we did mock interviews for my school, the guy said I was almost too relaxed, but it wasn't a huge problem. Just give honest answers and be confident.

Well they didn't really say much other than the walk in so I'm going to be asking them about times/positions for sure.

I wrote an actual letter (well typed anyway), but sent that in the mail and was one of the only few who did that when interviewing for my position. Definitely helps.
