Also with sex ed...especially with periods, they need to have more realistic/accurate depictions. The damn video I watched, the girl goes into the bathroom and then a bell tinkles in the background and she comes out saying "I got my period!" I was really upset when no bell tinkled to signal that I got my period. F that!

Also, I don't think blowjob being taught in 5th grade would mean they're giving the girls and guys tips on how to deliver a great blowjob, or eating out for that matter. It's just 'This is what current society considers to be a blowjob."

I do believe sex ed should be left to be taught by teachers, or even better, developmental psychologists/social workers/counselors/nurses, as teachers, contrary to belief, may not be sensitive or aware of developmental and individual issues as those other professionals are trained to be. Leaving it up to the parents, for the most part, is dangerous, unless the parents actually know how to go about it or are in a profession that has them trained in such a manner. However, these "qualified" parents are few.

age-appropriate "sex" education. Your kindergartner isn't going to be learning ANYTHING about STDs, condoms, etc. It'll be more like "boys and girls are different. Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina" if that. It's basically just teaching your kids obvious anatomical information and acclimating them to be aware of their bodies, aware of people who would want to touch them there, etc.

It's hardly about "sex", because 5 year olds can't comprehend sex really, and that wouldn't be age-appropriate.

But if you want to keep your kid in the dark-ages, I'm sure you can keep him out of that segment of class to prevent him from knowing how boys and girls are different. OR...you could inform yourself about what your child's school curriculum is regarding kindergarten "sex" education, and then make a decision as opposed to jumping to wildly incorrect retarded assumptions.

Sex education should be taught as soon as a child is capable of absorbing and retaining the information. There's absolutely no reason for the way our culture treats sex, sexuality, and the human body as such taboos, and to be perfectly honest, its a huge part of most of our problems.

But hey, by all means, deprive your child of information that they're irrefutably going to come across at some point in a much less productive and appropriate way.

Some my see it as taboo as you say, but by the age of 13 my mother and father(who where divorced) both sat me down and spoke to me about sex. way before that I was told about the no no area.

If your mothers/fathers are teaching you about it I see nothing wrong with the school reteaching it. Now I dont like the idea of a 5 year old being told more then "no no area" any words about making kids and shit stays out till your older. 5th grade seems fine.

and if you dont have your TV/PC set to "safe" for your kids do so asap. Windows PCs/Mac's, IE/FF all have a ton of ways to keep your kids safe. learn your cable box and set that to keep off MTV/BET and anything else you might not like. I was pissed when I saw my 8 year old 2nd cousin singing about the "G Spot" I gave my cousin hell about that.

This is only a problem to uneducated, uninformed, fundie conservatives who lap up every sensationalist headline from Fauxnews. These topics need to be covered before puberty, and it's clear the parents aren't doing their due diligence. As long as the topics are age-appropriate, there should be no concern.

I don't see why it matters. There were a ton whores in the 6th grade(middle school) when I was coming up and some of them were pregnant by 7th-8th grade. Parents must of failed to teach those girls about the risk of sex before they got to that age.

When I was in 5th grade we had some sex ed from what I remember. And learned more in 7th. I know 5th grade might seem young, but with how young some kids are having sex it's probably better to tell them about alternatives to intercourse. All the under 18 pregnancies these days is getting out of hand.
