The lag would be horrendous, I see were people are coming from with this complaint. But not everyone is going to be at the market at a given time. 90% of us will be out adventuring and doing other things. So that would ease up on 8 sectioned wards.
Since its interaction between our personal character and all the retainers in that zone maybe it will be even more instance, as in, you might see 50 others end-users running around looking for stuff but you don't see all the other end-users. You would see all the retainers though since those are npc's that don't take up bandwidth but you would't see every interaction between retainer and owner.
I keep thinking ragnorok online and how everyone had their carts setup in this city(didn't play that long) and the lag was horrible and it was a simple game to run when out side that city and when I passed that field of lag, inside the city. I'm picturing it looking the same way for 14, except all those carts in that game(ragonline) were end-users taking bandwidth(causing lag)gpu/cpu stress. Our retainers will be npc based no lag to worry about just cpu/gpu usage.
Having our own private hub(MH ffxi) which would be lag free. Our retainer could be there and we could buy through them there. The interface would be like the AH in ffxi but listing each retainer name is "said" category and we browse to our hearts content. If we were to walk to the ward our retainer would be there before we got there, with cart setup and all, we would be able to give things to them to sell.
Not really keen on the specifics of EVE, but someone mentioned that it was similar to EVE, the thing that I saw.
During one of my wait-arounds for HP to recover, I was running through the Inventory menu, and choosing an item gave a option called "Offer". Now, I wanted to post about this before, but I couldn't remember if it was meant to be for setting a bazaar price offer.
I have since found a photo of it though, and there is clearly a "Seek item" next to a "Sell item" button, and there is a place to put in a gil offer, or an item offer. I have to wonder if this does the searching through retainers for you (automated WTB listings, so to speak). Only stipulation of course is you have to own the item in order to get to this part of the menu.
SE ninja edited the message they posted yesterday. It used to say this:
and now it says this:We are happy to announce that we now have a rough idea of what is causing these issues and we are currently in the process of making the proper adjustments on the server structure, along with performing internal stress tests. Our current plans are to have the test prepared after July 24.
Since that time, we have made progress in narrowing down the causes of these problems, and are carrying out server restructuring and internal stress tests to improve the situation. Our current aim is to have scheduled beta tests taking place again as normal beginning on July 24.
The whole post has changed, what the heck lol.
Seem like they changed more than just that, but I guess it's the next beta test we all really care about.
In this post we would like to elaborate on the reasons why it was necessary to cut short the beta test of July 21, and also introduce to testers the plans in place for the upcoming beta tests.
During the beta test of July 21, the game servers were functioning in relatively good order. However, due to the increase in the number of testers since July 15, server loads rose significantly as well, causing troubles when players attempted to log in or change zones in-game. Ultimately, this resulted in an inability for us to provide a satisfactory testing environment, and so the beta test was ended prematurely.
Since that time, we have made progress in narrowing down the causes of these problems, and are carrying out server restructuring and internal stress tests to improve the situation. Our current aim is to have scheduled beta tests taking place again as normal beginning on July 24.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused testers, and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Yea they pretty much just reworded everything else, which is why I left it out and got to the juicy part.
I like how there is a 5+ page thread dedicated to SE's wording in that post before they changed it.
"WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!?"
I'm kinda skeptical that they can fix it in just a few days. Well, good if true!
Hope so, one test a week is pretty bad at this point so lets hope things are getting back on the rails.
I wouldn't be too worried about them sorting out this problem. There's always a risk for another popping up instead though.
