Seems like this might be related to the skills saying "Optimum Level" in one of the screens where you set them. Perhaps they are just going to let anyone wear/equip/set anything and just nerf it based on your class/rank/etc.

I still can't understand why they have goats and dodos you can't kill even at level 10. If they don't even aggro, why the fuck are they there?

I'm honestly concerned that they expect to have everything ironed out and ready for release in 3 months. Basic game mechanics and concepts do not seem to be set in stone yet, or perhaps they were and no one liked them.

I admire SE for wanting to do their own thing but you can't really until the basics are in place first. Gameplay and controls are 2 things that should be first and foremost before addressing 20 other things at once or whatever they seem to be doing.

the dodo's are awesome... their like stalkers, they stare/follow you around haha

I'm having alot fun at guessing alot stuff, didn't read the manual/guide or anything just wondering and figuring it out on my own.

think I got pretty far beating random stuff. After an hour trying to figure how to get out of a city, I've gotten to where I can solo some puk things, some dodo's and jelly fish things near naked. (kinda disappointed you can't take clothes off till you have like bra+panties in ffxi... oh the memories starting ffxi punching mandy/bee's naked...) The goats hit like 200's... >.>
Puk does some 80-90 damage thing but you can run from it usually

also someone mentioned the chakra/2nd wind ability, its healed me for 150-180HP (guess it crits?) before, averages 90-120HP.

also... randomly is their a friends list or way to add friends to a list/ls?

I wouldn't mind if they kept this the game at retail
Which means as the game goes on, if you want to level a new craft/a new player joins, there is pretty much 0 market for low level items? That seems kind of dumb/detrimental to the economy.

Yea I made a suggestion on the offical forums that they need to be nerfed or swapped out for more viable mobs.

Team up and try to kill em
Sadly its easier to make progress soloing on low level mobs than, making a party and attacking higher level mobs, there seems to be some XP penalty for partying up aswell.

Tried both and was skilling up/leveling up much faster on my own.

Lets not forget that dodo's and Aldgoats hit like trucks aswell, so even in a party the tank is going to go down fast if you don't kill it quick.

From what I've read about the level/rank-up system in FFXIV the more anxious I get to want to try it. It seems to share some similarities in the leveling system with Demon's Souls on the PS3 and I love that game, even though it does require a fair amount of grinding. Always liked being able to assort my stats myself. Limitations on gear seem to be similar in a way as well. More Attribute limitations rather than level limitations. Fundamentally they're basically the same, but with being able to control your attribute distribution it allows for some more freedom.

Anyone noticed some ill effects from equipping a piece of armor that you don't have the attributes for? If you can equip it at all.

i haven't been paying as much attention as any of you, but what's the archetypical tank class going to be? (or what seems to be it) and what type of tank? are we talking more along the lines of paladin or more along the lines of eva/shadow tanking as with ninja?

i also saw "Two Handed Shield" in one of the other threads as an option for a weapon, does this mean the tank class will literally just be one big shield?

Up to what point in the game? In FFXI it wasn't really worth it to party until level 12-15 or so (and then, it was more "necessary" as soloing EP's sucked at that point). Partying didn't really hit stride until the 20s. I'm okay with that pace, as for the first week or so, when you don't know wtf, don't really need to try and figure out party mechanics while you're still figuring out stuff like how the menus work, where everything is at, etc.

We can only wait at this point :D.

It looks like SE's developing is quite horizontal though- every feature is worked on at the same time as far as I know.

Agreed, I just can't see how SE plan to make the game accessible to casual players via guildleved (which they have super nerfed) and still appeal to the more seasoned FF11 player's.

You could be right that lvl 20+ is where the party mechanics will truely kick off and I hope it does, just saying what I have found to be true so far.

I ran up to Skull rock and even there people were soloing Dodo's and Puk's, that being said you see cool looking mobs like the Aldgoats but you can't kill them because they are so overpowered, there are efts and wyverns which have been added in the latest patch but they will probably be just as overpowered aswell.

Only thing thats bugging me atm is the lack of shortcut keys to inv, equip, journal, etc. Also tabbing is kind of awkward, reverse tabbing (shift+tab) stops your character when walking, and theres no F key to target NPCs/Mobs, which is annoying.

And like people have been saying, the passive/active thing is not fluid at all, no reason you should have to stop to do it.

Also not sure why people dont like using the keyboard, it's mostly fine, just takes a second to get used to ijkl. Theres no need to use a mouse in this game if youre using keyboard, so im not real sure why people are syaing they hate using the mouse when they dont have to at all.

I've heard several times the terms "regional" and "local" guildleves, but don't understand the difference. Also I thought I heard local guildleves and crafting guildleves (are these the same thing? is one a subset of the other?) are turned off.
Is it possible with those back on, and the ability to help others in guildleves and still get the bonus rewards (thought I read that in patch notes?) would give you enough guildleves to do?

Kind of glad to hear this, as all I ever used in FFXI was keyboard, never used gamepad or mouse (Mouse mainly being pointless), seems really stupid to use a gamepad you have to set down to start typing, then pick back up to do shit, I'd get real tired of switching back and forth over and over (caveat - have not tried it, no beta invite for meeeeeeeee)

no more 8426 movement? i am disappoint

edit: also what of linkshells, linkshells was definitely the best 'guild' system i've ever really encountered as it was cannon to the story as well as you could have multiple ones at the same time
