Pretty much too late for that... Worst case is SE releases an incomplete game in an attempt to get subs for more development money. I wonder if this is a resource management issue, release date before beta, flooding beta with way too many players too fast, and the current status of the game. 69 days to go, its gonna be like a death march for SE to get this out right on this time table.
Both the lower levels of Limsa and by BR.
I didn't have very bad stuttering experiences to begin with, but that maybe more network related. In order to reduce lag in other games, like Aion and Mabinogi:Heroes (KR Vindictus), I played some registry shenanigans to reduce network throttling inherent in Win7. Google it. It helped me a lot after I switched ISPs from Comcast to ATT Uverse.
I think it all depends on how fast they can keep pumping out updates.
I think we'll get a good indication next week, or am I too optimistic assuming we might get the next update then? They did say they wanted to move to phase 3 in this month...
If the update is large, and fixes many issues from all fields of gameplay, I think that they can make it. We should see the auto translate function and player macros at least then, too.
Can the "Calling it now, Q1 2010" & "this game wont be rdy on time" posts stop.. its so pointless to even being saying stuff like that as nobody has an idea how far along they really are. I mean the difference from alpha to beta was HUGE (most companies do rolling updates to keep the client fairely up-to-date. It's never as far along as the internal build, but SE has alrdy shown they are handling it differently) and during all that time the alpha client saw no changes outside of stability, ect... or serious bug issues. SE isn't cramped on money, if they need to push back the release date they will. There is no way they will release a troubled client to retail, and if they said sept 22/30'th I'm sure they are pretty damn confident they can make that date w/ time to spare.
I don't think losing a couple days worth of "testing" is going to push the game back until next year. Most of the real testing seems to be going on internally with only a small fraction of the beta players even allowed to submit bug reports. I'm not worried.
I highly doubt it'll take them two months to get their servers running adequately. Aside from minor bugs and polishing game balance this game is in pretty good shape from what it seems. The change from not adding new testers to adding a crap ton of testers shows they're confident with their game and now they're ironing out the kinks with the servers. To think it will take them two months to get the servers running is plain stupid.
One thing I can't wait to see is the completely finished UI.
I mean the difference between the "main menu" and the rest of the UI is simply huge. I bet in few months everything will look (and hopefully play) as slick as the main menu does.
Well, you never know.. if they got alot working on it they could squeeze out the game working fine by release
Most beta's I've played in (and currently playing in) do tons of fix's in a relatively short time frame.
and holy crap this thread went up like 11 pages in 4 hours.
If they can do fixes pretty quick why did they just cancel the whole day?![]()
I doubt that this is a resource management issue. SE has deep pocketbooks and FFXI subs are basically funding this as well, so... The reason beta is flooded with so many people was already stated by SE that they don't care about testing for bugs or glitches right now but they want to stress test the servers and have players comment on gameplay.
Edit:
and as Myth stated, it won't take two months to get their servers in check.
