FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread IV: I got beta inv but my 5 year old PC can't run it

How often do they usually release patches? Right now I'm very interested to know how other companies' betas work haha

In the notes for the updates they performed before today's testing time they said they "enhanced server performance" it's likely whatever new scripts they uploaded to the server for this botched part of the login process or caused stability issues.

They'll fix it and it'll be up for the next testing session. Idiots will be idiots, most people are too used to the "beta" tests that they've gotten into with other companies that are essentially demos, or giant extended design balancing splooge-fests (see: Starcraft II). This is an honest to god beta where they're fixing real issues ahead of time.

They will also get player feedback on things like UI, playability and general things like that. The fact that most of their testing is internal is not something to worry about, every game you've ever played has gone through thousands of hours of internal testing.

The internal testing team will focus on game balance issues and bugs, we're just here to stress the servers and give impact on general interaction and system issues.

Most of the content realated stuff can be tested internally, its only the balancing and stability testing they need help with.

Exactly, and that may be why they chose to cancel the tests for today. Either the guys who handle the server issues are sleeping, or they currently have bigger fish to fry than getting the beta test stuff working. They have to do a fair amount of internal testing to insure that all the quests/synths and mobs behave as designed.

At least on a normal game, beta is usually mainly composed of bug-fixing, polish items and hoping to cram as many "little things" that would be nice to have, but weren't important enough to make it in the game as of yet. I can only imagine that the beta test world is a subset of the entire game, and that some things may only be tweaked in the final version of the game.
