I'm not sure if I'm suggesting a change or not. Haymaker is a very powerful ability with low TP and stamina requirements, making it a large reward for your good reflexes. Using a different ability after an evade means your reflexes aren't that good, you're just noticing it in the log.

The more I think about it, the more I think it should stay the same. The twitch nature of PUG could be the thing that differentiates it from the more deliberate classes and defines it in each of its potential branches (straight DD, support DD, evasion tank). Careful attention and ability management should be the hallmarks of a good PUG just as maybe patience could be the hallmark of a good Marauder (stances and AOE activate after conditions are met over a period of time).

Still working on getting more abilities. Hopefully they'll give me a better idea of what PUG is as a class.

P.S.: Earth Sl-Seismic Shock is so fucking awesome now, it's like Savage Blade and Howling Fist in one.
there are other jobs with reactionary skills, to better use them you have to avoid spam, allow yourself to actually wait till full and be a little lax on hitting the button if you think its going to attack soon, you have a decent amount of time, i think its just doing a skill that messes it up. also look for the evade to happen on your charachter rather than the log. position your camera so that your not easily confused by when the mob evades.

You go a little slower but this is the tactics and skill involved with reactionary skills, do i try to spam or do i control my outputs. hopefully will be easier to execute if featherstep actually helps you dodge more. Oh yeah and light attacks and concussive, you tactically choose to increase you evasion and reduce mob accuracy with hope of triggering evasions, or go balls out

this is why when people say the battle tempo is too slow, or that there is no tactical elements, i think they just havent played long enough/good enough. Sure its easy if one spams easy prey rats the whole game, but thats up to the players

I don't know while so many people hate free roaming NMs. They are one of my favorite parts of the game. I absolutely hate having to instance shit.

I hope they keep adding more reactionary and side effect skills; it really livens up the gameplay. I've seen gladiator using the guard> phalanx move and it really makes combat look much more involving.

Mainly because it promotes unfair play and botting, there was a huge discussion in another thread about it. :D

They're only fun if they're not camped and they're usually only not camped when there's no point in killing them.

I guess I never really had to deal with bad botting then. Since I always got what I wanted / needed with ease. I did quit years ago though so I am sure it got worse since. But for the first three years or so didn't have an issue.

I guess that's where I'm weird. I loved camping. But of course losing or failing sucked.

Nah, I'm with you Null. I loved open-world NMs, and I hope there's still several in each zone. Not all NMs have to have the ruthless KA/Faf-like competition; just take a little more care in designing loot. Drops can be quite useful without being godly end-all. It's really only the latter-type drops that were (when I played) ridiculously camped.

lol it actually sucked the most in the first 3 years, you must have seduced a number of people to help you.

I rem like 5 us sitting around in oz staring at each other trying to get mee deggi, then it would spawn you would prolly not ever get pull, i in fact got pull like 3 or 4 times, and then you never get drop. and this was a relatively low level item. Nostagila...... doesnt help that memory at all, it still sucks.

As long they manage to create a system that won't become a fucking bottleneck and encourage monopoly and botting. It wouldn't be hard to have 1 hour respawn time, but killing it give a 72h debuff that prevent you from killing it again. This way, you have a roaming HNM that is endgame material and won't suck the life of everyone camping it.

an ls leader starting a leve that's available maybe thrice a week for an opportunity to down said HNM is more likely

Unlikely with the current system, though it of course could change. Right now you can help with leves even if you dont have it accepted, with loot pools/rewards unchanged. 1 person starts, alliance completes, another person accepts, repeat infinitely?

True. I'm wondering what S-E could do to make a fair and balanced system without having like 3-4 alliances lagging up an area and not having 2-3 groups wind up disappointed.

however only the main person gets the main reward, and if cooldown is as big as it is now, your using up one of your 2 days of leves. If its a monster drop or blue chest drop from a leve, drop rate will kick in. then theres faction leves which require other leves. Doesnt matter how much people are fighting it, it matters how often you can get the special stuff from it.

Leve rewards are not the same as the loot pool, which are shared with the entire participating alliance. You know as well as I do that the phat lewts isn't going to come from the 100% leve reward.

I think you're oversimplifying this. Either that or you're suggesting that playing tactically and having an ability override a Haymaker proc are mutually exclusive. They aren't, refreshing Light Strike's def/evade buff or C. Blow's acc down debuff will be something you want to do asap and that sometimes happens around a monster attack. This is especially true since early on they make up half of your rotation.

Also, you have to go at a clip if you're fighting anything remotely difficult. A lot of the monsters can out last you if you aren't careful, even Haymaker can miss, so keeping reliable buffs up while throwing in some heavy hitters is something that has to be done quickly. My problem with Haymaker isn't that the opportunity comes too fast, but that the other abilities aren't simply reliable, but necessary. On anything where it's especially important that you get a Haymaker off on, it's equally important to maximize your damage output and maintain applied statuses. That's actually the nice thing about PUG's abilities; You're never really playing wrong unless all you do is use one move. Missing Haymaker is a mistake, not a failure; If you feel that you need to spam to survive something, you're probably right. If you're spamming and you still get off a Haymaker, you've been managing your stamina and TP well while having excellent reflexes. Like I said, it's a reward for being a better player.

I'm aware there are other jobs with reactionary abilities, but PUG has the most we're aware of and gets them earlier. With its history of Counterattacking, I expect a trend. Incidentally, PUG's counterattack has carried over from alpha, I saw it a few times in the log.

They should just make the drops RARE/EX along those lines (unless its a crafting material drop or something) to avoid this. But yeah, huge discussion elsewhere, that's just my two cents if they were to add free roam NMs XD

A system that isn't a copy-paste from an aging MMO would be nice. (copy-paste from a new one at least or make a new one)

Wouldn't that be kinda redundant since new MMOs copy-paste from old MMOs which copy-paste from even older MMOs? :D

Why not company levequests? Personally I'd prefer most of the loot in this game come in the form of materials used to craft high level gear. And from what I've seen SE has the same idea, or they better if they want to allow DoH classes to be wanted by companies regardless of combat skill, which they do.

So you accept a Company Levequest (perhaps different levequests available for different ranks of a Company) that has a cross-Company cooldown. You go out and hunt said HNM or whatever, if you're successful the materials go to the company loot pool.

From there, possibly back at the company hall, or wherever, your epic armorsmith can make those dragon plates into your end game armor, or what have you, then it can be given to any person in the company and bound to them.

SE mentioned "Company property" and 'Companies can affect your items, or what you own' (I'm paraphrasing) so this makes a lot of sense. Stick a nice big fat cooldown on it to prevent abuse (something like 15-30 days) and viola.

I would love to see this system implemented, it'd be a nice way to stop the bullshit competition over HNMs and NMs in general, without having to make everything instanced. That being said, Final Fantasy games wouldn't be complete without the party eventually grabbing a boat or airship...

I'm honestly hoping they use this system, and in later updates expand it to allow company run airships and boats that are built and maintained by the companies disciplines of the hand. Special Company Levequests can be undertaken to hunt enemies in the sky, or at sea and upon returned to your instanced Company Hangar/Dock your DoHs can be greasemonkeys and fix her up, Carpenters and Armorsmiths repairing the hull, Alchemists and Goldsmiths recalibrating the instruments, etc, etc.

And honestly, it wouldn't be difficult to implement a system like this, 1:1 movement isn't something I'd ever expect, but being able to essentially go out on your airship in an instanced sky area, where you just fly to intercept the target is not only doable, it's been done before. It'd be a nice system these Company Levequests, to set the game apart from other MMOs.
