i used to hope that ff14 would be a gatherer for mmorpg players.

I actually prefer the idea the NM's wouldn't drop Armour/Weapons and drop crafting mats, this way the game becomes crafting centric, which is something SE are hinting at with repairable items.

Obviously you could still make money from the NM's by selling the mats and then prices are set by the crafters, its kind of no different to real life, you don't go and kill a cow and get a leather jacket drop do you ?

I was thinking that they could only drop consumables for all I care, like some epic potions or food +1's or something. Also 3x exp than normal maybe. Stuff like that.

They're not really that important to the game as a whole but it's nice bonus when you travel somewhere and see a mob like that, and get some cool but temporary stuff from it for your efforts.

Comparing to the other MMOs I've played both WoW and Aion has it too. It's not really strange or unexpected of SE to use it.

Yeah but what I really want to know is if they intend to have a lowered euro price, else I'd rather just get a NA box.

I suppose thats true, but then it's not really applicable to FF14 what with world server and all, I just remember the nightmare of importing FF11 from the US and finding out that the EU expansion packs weren't compatible.

If they make 24 hour world spawns, I'll never camp one. I did that stuff for so long without botting only to see mobs spawned claimed etc. I do think there should be world spawns but I think they should be random 100%. I also think they shouldn't despawn until they have been killed or maybe during maintenance/server reboot. There are ways to make world spawns fun without camping them for 3 straight hours only to be beaten by a botter.

Also, quest mobs and named mobs should spawn frequently. For instance the monk belts in FFXI. I would have liked to have seen the mobs leading up to the black belt mobs be more accessible. Spending hours waiting for Nu or Marlborglererererer is not cool. Along those lines, I like the "farm rare item, trade to ???" to get a mob to spawn. That would have worked out real well for the monk belt quests imo.

Where is this from? A player linking something? Theres nothing on the EU site about it that I can see?

It's 2010 and different parts of the world still run differently in terms of electronics, internet quality, power and etc.

Just because it's 2010 doesn't mean things should suddenly vanish. >.> Region locks are for various reasons, theirs is because of the way the SE account system is. Other eastern companies lock it so chinese can't pirate it.

That mentality is old and played out. XI players are closer to the so called wow fags than they think or realize. I have friends in the extreme corners of both.

Also, curious if anyone was able to set up an alliance just for fun? Wondering what the UI for it looks like and it's functionality.

Yes if you are talking about console, ie NTSC/PAL etc but PC are standerdized, of corse I see your point in that obviously SE system is based on region most likely to counter the currency conversion, but this doesn't mean the software has to be different between region, you should just have the option to select which region the software should install as.

In short software region doesn't (shouldn't) effect the Account region.
