    Hmmm..

Not that I like them, but here are some names from the Rog NPCs in Limsa:

    Nystbyrm
    Thosenbaen
    Ryssfloh
    Aergwynt

    Kinda terrible imo.

Or, you could try something like these:

    Rhuthyk Coensmyd
    Rhaldgrid Berdwulf
    Erdhaemr Agiwulf
    Uldmann Nachaemyr

They are using a FFXIV race/name generator here:

    http://www.adventureleague.net/ffxiv-name-generator/

The FFXIV Rogs seem to have, idk, eastern european sounding names? Almost like they would fit in the Beowulf story.

You could always go back to the FFXI galkas and call yourself Grim Ironfist or something like that

Think its a bit early to be saying this, as far as I can see its not that far removed from FF11 and I don't mean that in a negative way either.

Granted there is deffinately more freedom to make the kind fo character you want, but to what extent this will happen is yet to be seen, mainly due to certain builds being more favourable.

The main problem I had wasn't so much about the mix and match style classes as DoM not gaining a fair share of the skill points from battle and Meonline has pointed out something which may prove that to not be the case.

The MP thing could become an issue still, but we will have to see, it's unrealistic for mage classes to be expected to walk all the way to a crystal if they run out, especially if they are far from one, sure they can teleport but this means mages will be using up a lot more anima than DoW classes which is unfair on that end aswell.

As others have said though MP management may become a lot easier the further we level, I'm sure SE have some sort of plan up their sleeve... at least I hope.

Does the Conjurer have spells like Esuna/Panacea, Haste, Stone, Shell, Protect, etc?
According to the dats Conjurer get shell, protect and most status removing spells, like poisona and silenca, not sure who gets Haste or even if it exsists yet.

One interesting thing is that Mind is Magic Defense, it's going to be hard to be a Gladiator, even just a Gladiator who wants to tank, and not do other Hybrid things, because they're going to need to raise STR and DEX to kepe threat, and VIT to take hits, but MND too to take magic damage?

A Conjurer or Thaumaturge may make the best tank against a spellcaster enemy, if they sit back and use spirit dart like abilities instead of melee swings between their spells, because spirit dart and the like count as magic.

Edit: When it comes to MP management, it's definitely too early to tell, hopefully SE will balance this out, all classes should rely somewhat more on MP, if a class relies more heavily on MP like a mage or hybrid, it should have ways to regenerate MP to some extent, so that on average all players in the party run out of MP around the same time and need to make a pit stop. It's actually good design if they do this, FFXI parties had no pacing. Go go go go go go go go go, Chain 450, okay guys we're done.

To me the pace and style, the classes arent really what people seem to want to think of thier classes as. How you go about leveling traveling etc, its as different as aion is from ffxi. But maybe it will slowly morph back into ffxi, i hope not.
far as skill ups, when i partied with the conjurer they actually got very pimp skill ups from curing. while i was rolling +23 and +30s with swings, he was rolling like +100-150 for cures, so curing is a feasible way to skill up, i think he also got skill ups for stoneskin, but i wasnt paying that much attention.

Far as mages using more anima, if your partied with the mage you generally end up doing whatever they are doing. if not you can roam free, but really its not that mages are equal to a regular person by a aether, they are actually much stronger by an aetheryte. damage spells do more dmg than weapon skills, and require no tp, with the same stamina cost. mages tether themselves to a crystal not to be equal but in order to be op, the price they pay for that is anima, or being tethered, or straight money on ethers. I wouldnt expect a free roaming mage to ever be able to put out as much magic as a tethered mage, no matter what skills they have

This has always been the woes of tanking jobs in general, across nearly every game that has group roles. It is usually solved by gear selection.

Greater Colibris were not always what people in FFXI exp'd on. As a very old school player, Deco burns and Ulli-camp parties were the main shticks back in the days of RoZ/CoP. The game ran at a snail's pace back then too, and I'm talking 250xp/kill at the top, 4k/hour, no such thing as emperor/empress/etc bands, and chain 5 or 6 if you were lucky enough to have a RNG or RDM pullers (That's right! RNGs were pullers at one point in this game). Let's not forget how much steeper the EXP/Level was at the time too.

It's fair to say they will do something about the MP management issues based purely off their band-aids in FFXI to PLD. They likely recognize issues in this department quickly nowadays. At the very least, it's wishful thinking.

Oh yes, I remember the good old days of EXP in Moon and Sky just as well, but this game is obviously more fast paced, and if any similarities can be drawn on my experiences partying in the game so far, it's much closer to Colibiri simply because the fights are quicker. There's a lot less standing in one place and pulling mobs to you though, which already helps the pacing quite a bit.

I'm actually kind of curious about something at the moment, and that is how Umbral and Astral damage are decided, because you can't as far as I am aware, raise your Umbral or Astral affinity. If so and they're purely dictated by INT, it seems like umbral/astral abilities/spells will be less useful when ported across "base classes" because you can't focus on a particular element to up their potency.

Those generated scrabble-barf names are pretty horrible. You might just want to google Celtic/Welsh/Old English/Scandinavian names and name meanings, so it means something to you.

This is an interesting compilation of cultural name resources.

I always liked 'Fatty Mctits' in XI, and I think it would fit XIV's galka lore as well.

    Honestly have no idea.

The names it spits out seem like they fit the names of the NPCs in game, but they are pretty bad regardless.

I guess it all depends on how much you wanna get into the game lore?

I'd pick something that you either like or means something in another language personally.

Too hard to keep up with this thread while in the process of moving ;/

Re: The lack of healers, I'm just going to repost what I said on zam.

I suspect they want to hold off on a main healing class for now because that allows them to adjust the game mechanics without a healer. A problem in XI was the need of healers but the lack thereof. Healers were too powerful, and monsters were tuned so that without those classes, you didn't have a chance.

The best way to adjust the game mechanics so that healers aren't essential to accomplishing all of your objectives is to tune the game without them there at all. They can then later add them with respect to player-to-player balance (e.g., DRG is just as useful as RDM) instead of team-to-monster balance (FFXI).

So don't worry your pretty little heads over it for now. There should be no doubts that more mage classes will come in time, and a recovery/defensive mage is sure to be one of them.

Not too wildly different from a subjobs so until we see how much healing is necessary just think of it like having multiple subjobs at once. The archetypes still apply DD,Healer,Tank and the effectiveness at which you can do these three things at once will be determined by just how gimp sub skills from other jobs are.

Well, the fact that you can more or less equip any ability regardless of skill type or level is a huge deal I think, it just may not seem like it yet. We'll see how it pans out though.
