Anyone know what the physics option in the configuration does? I wasn't noticing any changes with it off or on.
Anyone know what the physics option in the configuration does? I wasn't noticing any changes with it off or on.
It made my clothes look noticeably fluffier. When I turned it off the clothes kind of just stuck to the body, while when I turned it on they sprung into place. It was most noticeable around the waist, where the skirt part of the starter body armor is.
Maybe you can't see it unless you have PhysX and an Nvidia card?
Anyone who thinks there won't be cookie cutter specs in this game is fooling themselves. Also the only way you could possibly break up the monotony of this spec/stats is by making every fight of note have some random gimmick, like sometimes the boss likes to change into a truck and do blunt dmg. Even if that were to happen there's still going to be a best spec for blunt dmg resist and if you don't have it you will trigger a chorus of
"LOL NOOB WHY CAN'T YOU TANK TRUCKMAN SCRUB!!!". However I like to think that LOLJOB may not be a big deal this time around, however I'm not sure. Early in the game will probably be pretty balanced with so few classes to look after.
I think it was the physics option that changed the way weapons looked while dangling at your side. I toggled it a few times in front of an npc who had an axe on his waist. With it off the weapon kind of looked glued to him, but with it on the axe moved around freely.
Cookie cutter specs/builds will always exist, how important they are to actual gameplay will depend on how well the designers implement this system
How important they are to group is up to us, the community, in particular the hardcore community. The moment some theorycrafter releases their treatise on how to spec for Truck Man people will either look at it and go "Meh, okay, that's in the ideal situation, but 'shit's situational' and I don't really feel it's necessary to respec for that one fight." or they will look at it and preserve it in the annals of time as the word of god, to be followed to the letter in any situation involving Truck Man.
I've played "other" games, where respecing has been a big deal, some people would respec between boss fights, but it was largely unnecessary, shaving off such a marginal amount of damage taken (I generally played a tank) or so marginally increasing the amount of enmity you gain per second.
What it comes down to is, you needn't fix what isn't broken, hopefully the system has enough of a cooldown and penalty that respeccing often is impossible, but even if it is, the answer is just to run with people who aren't so uptight that they think you have to be 1% more efficient regardless of whether or not the boss can be killed by your group with ease already. Respecing should honestly be a last resort.
I think the community will self-regulate just fine, honestly, as long as SE does a decent job of balancing the game itself.
no matter how balanced the game is there will still be some choices that will nevertheless be viewed by the community as wtf choices... (see for instance, half of the FFXI brady guide... whm/war? really guys?) even in a game where whm/war wasn't stupid, specialisation will still be important for group play.
so people talking about us carrying mmo terms over: in a pve game there's some number of people primarily responsible for killing the boss, some number primarily responsible for taking damage, and some number primarily responsible for keeping everyone in categories 1 and 2 doing what they do.
that we've called them DD, tank, healer is just convenience - regardless of how you actually accomplish those three tasks, those three tasks must be accomplished. and it'll be done better by specialists than generalists, unless one or two of the generalists are *way* too good at everything all at once.
Ok random question: Is there any news about getting on the same server with a friend(s)? Will something come in the CE or will it be in game with money or points ect..?
Server selection has only recently been added in iirc
Pretty sure you'll get better a code that your friend can enter into the SE site and get some trial time with FFXIV. That's how it usually is with other MMOs.
As for the server, you can pick your server when you create your character. I'm sure SE will keep it the same as beta.
They said world selection would be added to the beta soon: http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showp...03&postcount=8
What we don't know is
1) if this will carry over to launch.
2) What the names of the servers will be at launch.
They've already added it and why would they remove it for launch?
I also don't see why they'd change the name of the servers, I like the new ones. They won't have as many options as XI though unless they start with minor villains.
At least all the idiots will go to Sephiroth and we can safely hang somewhere else.
Yup was added on Thursday.
Makes no sense to add it to the beta if they don't intend to keep it for launch.
Harhar, I've been invited to the beta but I'm too stupid to figure out how to get in. When I try to get into the beta testers site, it says...
So then I go to the the Account Management system and I see nothing about registering a service account. You could not log in because the service account in question is not registered.
If you would like to log in to the service, please log in to the Square Enix Account Management System and register the service account.
I'm just a silly little goofball, aren't I?![]()
http://images.bluegartr.com/forum/im...ns/mmithra.png Maybe.
Edit: It can be all yours, unless someone can get it through my thick skull what is that I must do to play! :3

Now I see why people are getting pissed about this lol. There's nothing YOU can do till SE activates it. If you JUST got the invite it means they're inviting people again, otherwise...you just have to wait.
