This was posted by a user. I didn't tank in that game and was under the impression that Taunt just put you at the top of the list but also provided some initial hate. Didn't know all it did was modified existing threat tables.xilexposure: Kurokikaze01, I have been following Fight Club pretty close and I agree provoke is just like wow's taunt. With that being said you should stop opening with it because there is no threat established so it does nothing more than most likely start a fight with everyones threat table at 0 and the first person to react gets the mob(s). If you know how wow'staunt works it will put you at the top of the list with a buffer to give you a chance to stay on top. So it doesn't actually cause any threat, it just modifies the current threat table.
Yea it was apparent to me whenyou had that conjurer(?) constantly attack the mob and then you just used provoke without ever attacking the mob and then it just stuck on you. Yea i would try to run in with guard up and throw a stab out and then try to get a phalanx(sp?) in. If you lose the mob before you get a chance to establish agro then provoke will be a nice fail safe and give you a chance to make some threat.
I thought it was pretty interesting so I'm sharing it with you guys. Itching to test this when the servers are up. Anyone else come to this conclusion about Gladiator's Provoke?
You can pick your server at live release:
SourceQuestion 2 asks if players will be able to select the same server at launch
* Tanaka says FFXIV allows you to choose your server at character selection. You can tell your friend to pick the same server. He notes it is always better to choose a server that is not crowded.
I noticed in the alpha that using provoke a second or two before a CON or Archer hit it didn't help me keep hate, but using it a second afterwards did. It seemed more like a reactionary effect than a true hate building tool. Of course, it was hard to say that aggro was working properly in the alpha either.
Okay, I'll do that. Thanks much.
They did it once before with XI... beta servers were villians, launch servers were deities.
I'd like to see names of cities/locations... Alexandria would be my pick then. They would certainly have some interesting choices to pick from when naming the servers. Though I don't know what would be the "Sephiroth" equivalent, as in the server the noobs flock to... Midgar?
it also seemed crazy to me in alpha, but i dont know what the rules are, i figured early that glads prov skill was prolly better off as a reactionary tool though. And that heal had a lot less hate than people are used to, or that the hate worked differently, but seeing as how its a new game, my guess is that the hate system isnt the same as before, youd honestly need a dif hate system for multiple mobs
I've been thinking about the guildleve system, and it seems that if players can do a leve and get an item each time, won't this destroy the marketplace, I mean after 2 years there are going to be a surplus supply of specific items.
Hopefully when items degrade perhaps players will prefer to sell the item to an NPC rather than get it repaired.
I'm just curious how SE are going to deal with this, It will be hard for new crafters in 2-3 years to make any kind of profit if they can't sell the items they make due to a saturation of leve items.
Maybe you can only get the item once then it starts becoming solely money reward. Seems wierd that once you start getting endgame leves you would be given the 'Sword of ZOMGDEATH!!21 +100' every single time. Or the crafted items will be of better quality and more controllable (as in how you allocate stats) through catalysts, special materials etc.
edit: or perhaps they intend to control it by the % of getting that item as a reward
Did the same leve 3 times, first time I got body armour and the other 2 times I got materials only.
the rewards seem to change and you cant get every item from leves, the same leve gives dif rewards at dif times. Not really different than mob dropping equip. Also crafters gonna be driven buy fashion and other things as well. and they will always have a repair market.
Isn't this why crafters can repair equipment? I can see that being a steady income source by itself.
Yeah..from in-game and past experience with FFXI, which the same development team is on with this game as well. As said it's just too unpredictable, this isn't like ye ole generic MMO like WoW or Knight Online where 1 person uses even a normal attack and the mob gets a bloodlust for them and their first born.
XI whether people like it or not has one of the best hate management system of most MMOs and most easily controlled, you'd figure SE would follow that trend since not even the stats in XIV are working correctly yet. In every MMO with a 'provoke' styled ability the mob immediately goes after the user for a short time or indefinitely..in XIV..the mob just laughs and runs after someone else.
with the way crafting seems to go in mmo's I'm sure many leaders will try to claim it'll be considered a service you're supposed to provide for your linkshell/guild/clan for free and most everyone else will just get a close friend to do it at cost![]()
(I only mostly kid)
Alright, maybe the equivalent to Tele-Mage services in XI then? Just speculating really. It would make it supplemental income for some people that way.
