Attention Beta Users: Can someone give me the full list of the settings that you have available to you on Windows XP? Is there anything missing versus the Windows 7 version? Also, has there been a screenshot comparison between Windows 7 versus Windows XP yet? If someone can do this and PM the url to download both pictures I would love to see the subtle differences.

The game only supports DX9 as of now, so there isn't going to be any difference.

Seriously? 3 pages of whats is, lets face it, STUPID back and forth about controls?

I've been arguing for mouse + keyboard controls since day 1 of the alpha, but if they don't add it, WHO CARES. I'm still going to play, and if your not going to because you want to have a tantrum like a two year old because you have to adjust, then thats a bonus, I won't have to listen to you bitch about stupid shit.

There is a ton of feedback about it on the forums, but even so, what seems to be a fairly large number of people are using controllers with thier PCs, so its not like PC gamer = exclusively uses keyboard + mouse.

The alpha went for 11 weeks with only a couple of tiny, minor updates. I doubt they will patch something every test. Todays test will just be about stability I would think, no point adding something else into the mix til they fix what they broke last week.

They don't want you to be able to change jobs while being attacked, so why the fuck would they fix it?

Nothing wrong with making the game more accessible to Rage-Quitters. Also you may not mind it but it needs to be fixed or they need to ship it with a controller. As far as leaving shit as is, if this game is just fanboy/girl service release it now and people will pay for just whats in the beta. If it's not then fix the stuff that's making "Rage-Quitters" Sad Panda within reason.

I dont know if its been mentioned, I dont really wanna read through 46 pages but I'm somewhat curious to see (assuming that ff14 has a endgame) if the trendsetters in the game will be the people who played FF11 religiously (that already had/have ties with current/existing linkshells) or if will be totally new people who never really played FF11.

I guess ultimately it depends what the games like when it comes out, but has SE said anything about how many subscribers they are hoping for? Just kinda wondering how big the game will be in terms of player base compared to WoW or something.

I think the hardcore 11 players will help drive it initially, but players new to FF will probably be a major factor in helping us think outside the box since they haven't been "tainted," by 11.

Organized vs the unorganized not hard to draw a conclusion. Smaller, 25 30% (that's a very generous estimate)

I can assure you they will all be labeled as "casual", and will be chased away by the hardcore 11 players. There is no such thing as "outside the box" for people who live behind thick nostalgia goggle.

Or the people who refused to let non hardcore people have fun in XI.

Initially, yes. That's why I said "initially." Eventually though, the HQ players will shine through the hordes and it won't matter if they played 11 or not.

Whos to stop them ? the majority live in their own little world anyways :D, I'd say its more the game thats stops them having fun than the people.

All signs point to the game catering to both parties. If you're casual, odds are you don't give a fuck about the hardcore endgame players anyway.

In an mmo, its usually the people, escpecially ffxi, because to do anything at all for most of its life you needed people couldnt even kill too weaks if they were just too weak on most classes till the last couple years.

So if people say they dont want to do story mode, you didnty do story mode, if people wouldnt let you fight big monsters unless you were a blm you leveled blm or you sat out, if people said that your gear/job sucked you got kicked from parties or sat in jueno staring at mogs. If yuo couldnt convince people to hunt that monster with you for that item, you didnt get it.

So yeah people was huge in ffxi, hopefully in this one, not as much so, at least where you only need a few crazy people to have fun.

And yeah, in all honesty this game, in beta is pretty damn good, its not perfect and it could use some tweaks, but really its a pretty solid base, its enjoyable even in its current state for me, and yeah id pay 50 bucks to play it, i got games that cost 60 sitting here collecting dust that i have already played less than i did this beta.

As long as the hand holding aspect is over emphasized prior Linkshells will be just as over reaching as they were in XI. If there's more freedom to do things without needing 18 people to follow you like a bunch of Bananan Riders, I think you may see more things based on newcomers findings. However if nothing changes prepare for the same parse elites to run the show.

They don't NEED to make the game playable with a mouse, if it suits the game the way they have put the control scheme in...then so be it. If people have said time and time again they would like this control scheme and SE has done nothing to implement it...that means they don't view it as being beneficial and worth the time. Maybe they'll fix it down the road, if not, I don't really care I can adapt. Yes most people are use to using the mouse + keyboard set up, but it doesn't have to always be that way. That leads to stagnation if you just use what most people like, mix it up a little, human beings are great at adaptation.

Stop being a damn sheep? If you loved your class you were playing but everyone else didn't want to party, make your own party, make your own raid, prove to people you know your stuff and you bring some benefits other classes do not. It's a goddamn game you pay per month for, why would you ever just mope around about how all the cooler kids are having more fun then you. Make your own fun.

How are they burning bridges exactly? If people are that shallow they will not take 10mins to figure out a control scheme in a new game they just picked up...what the fuck? That's part of playing games, figuring out what's new in the game be it the controls or item management etc etc. Do you love the fact that most action games nowadays are just God of War? Or that all shooters are Modern Warfare/Halo?

Unless the control scheme can NOT be played at all, and so far people's only complaint have been that it's not mouse+keyboard; not that it's completely unplayable, then you have an issue. There's a difference between

"Oh man this control setup is really strange to me *Flash forward 5 days* Ok now I have it and it's pretty fun to use"
    to
"Wow..this control scheme is really strange *Flash Foward 5 days* Holy shit I still have no idea what the fuck is going on and it's making me mad!"

Compare it to something done by SE, aka FF13. Was it a good game? Yeah it was a pretty good game. Was it strange to play coming from other Final Fantasy games? Yeah it had it's quirks but then again every FF game seems to try to reinvent the wheel slightly so adapting to it is part of playing the games. Was it the best game ever made? No.

Adaptation is good and all, but we have the remember that we are still humans, and as humans, we are more prone to an analog way of thinking than a digital way.

Simply put, with a keyboard button, you can have a yes status and a no status. Button up, no status, button down, yes status.
Want to use that ability (yes/no?), hit button, ability activates. This is good.
Want to turn left? Press this button. Want to turn left faster? Sorry, no button for that... or worse, you have a left, left faster, left really fast, instant 90 degrees left, and instant 180 degrees left.

Now lets say you have 5 mobs in front of you. Want to cherry pick the one with lowest health? Sorry, gotta tab through until you get the right one. Want to pick the one that is beating on a clothy, standing next to 3 others mobs who are not beating on the clothy? Tab though until you find it.

By have a keyboard + mouse setup, we can
    A) Potentially remove some buttons from the keyboard, making it less crowded and easier to navigate.
    B) Give people analog control over mechanics that offer themselves better towards analog control.

Sadly, we cannot think as quickly or as simply as a computer can. So when we want to turn, we cant say "rotate about x axis through the first quadrant relative to the XY plane at base radial velocity for 1300ms" ... translation: "Turn left until the mob on my left is in front of me"
But with a mouse, we can do a sharp turn, overshoot, carefully readjust, and be done with it, all in a more natural way.

TBH, I am not horribly concerned about the camera controls being keyboard only, but I am horribly concerned about not being able to target with the mouse. Speaking from 12 years experience as a tank, in high end content, if you are tabbing through a number of mobs trying to find the one that is killing your squishy healer/caster friend so you can pull it off them... well frankly you've already failed your friend. Cause by the time you find 1 mob in say, 5, your friend is long dead.
