For what it's worth, both Age of Conan and Warhammer Online were much farther along in regards to servers at the two month mark.

Christ, its the storming of the Bastille! Someone agrees with me! Don't let Hyan see!
In all seriousness, though, I'm torn between the "new game = rough beta" logic and the "not new company so new beta should be smoooooth" camp. There are valid points for both.
I agree that there should have been far more servers, no matter how large or small they thought their testing group would be. If they just want to run bottleneck testing, they can fake simulate that easily. Hell, some of the hacking-qualified posters in BG could have done that for them, free of cost.
I'm pretty sure that at this point, they've heard just about every complaint they're going to hear 100 times over. Still, though, its hard to actually report bugs when you can't even get into the game to report them. I WANT to test - I want to get past level 20 and see if the higher level abilities/armor/zones are borked to shit, but it seems that when I finally log in, I need to call out of work and hide in a corner of the world so I never have to worry about logging out/getting booted and losing my spot.
Alright, we know the servers suck. Let's get down to business...
Did anyone go exploring this time around? I know I did. I went pretty far out and got to some Qirin camp with tons of crazy bridges and crazy huge red crabs. Also, I tried to go down into some cave but it said I couldn't proceed any further. Lots of crazy tunnels in this game that aren't really marked on the map well.
Did they use 100k testers? Honest question.
[e]Also, at the whole beta disappointment, really, if things weren't expected to be broken, would it require testing? A company can simulate any given scenario for days and still not come up with the minutiae that stems from individual players. Consider that they have connection points from across the globe against multitudes of service providers and routing paths.
Things are always broken. You don't have to waste your time if you think its a waste to try. No one is forcing you to sit for 3 hours spamming the log in. Don't get upset because you choose to do it.
It's a Closed beta doubt they really care about pissing off some testers by testing a cost effective server capacity through a bottle neck vs over preparing servers for load by adding additional ones that may not even be used during test times. If this was open beta I think they'd care more cause it's public.
I actually went to the Aetheryte at Casseiopeai Hollow with a small group. That cave looks pretty gorgeous with all the fauna glowing. Managed to exp there for a while. Will post stuffs on Fight Club in a bit.
Edit: Btw... I think their biggest design flaw so far is having EVERYONE hitting the 1 lobby server to select their character before hitting their respective servers. This is really killing them imo. Or am I looking at this the wrong way?
Not as last patch (especially as hunter) every 30-45 seconds, you get a "stable pet function error" crash (even with no pet out) ;/ oh and the map error if you had view range on max (and crash on changing zones)
anyway while I was able to play the other day, I didn't notice any lag with commands etc, just the 200-300+ user que which I sat n stared at since cata servers were dead all day long.
Was really hoping they'd fix the ati stuttering issue though, its noticeable when a player appears on screen for like a split sec.
Other then that, can play the game on maxed settings, everything enabled and with fraps on at 30fps which is a good sign for when they fix the stuttering.
Same issue here. Made a character, then got an error message, then when I went to make another, the one I had already made was on the screen but unable to be selected. My PC ran the game well for scoring just under 2k on the benchmark, so I assume it must have been a server issue.
Didn't get to do much exploring. I was only on for about 40 minutes. It was just enough time to figure out how to exit town, kill a few mobs, do a leve, run down the path avoiding puks to the next tele point, port back to town, pick up another leve, then crashed on my teleport back out. Only P lv 4 and conj lv 2.
I think the controls will be altered once they take care of the server stability issues, and by that point we'll be running 24/7 and actually be able to test out something other than the lobby.
Ahh yes, load testing. So painful, yet so vitally important. Hopefully they increase the testing frequency to take better aim at these login issues. I managed to play for a few hours last night, and the game was running much better than previous tests. Did get disconnected mid-game for the first time, however.
Anyways, this was kinda expected with so many people invited to test. I still remember the jp launch of phantsy star universe. They only had 20k testers, so when the game launched, and over 100,000 copies were sold in the first week, the server code was exposed as faulty to the point were Sega had to bring the online component down for a week, totally remix the network topology, and give all initial registrants a free month of game time. A hard lesson learned that the industry at large in Japan couldn't ignore.
Im really confused with these maintenences and what not going on.
Prior to the techinichal difficulties that seem to be going on now,
Has the Beta been open since earlier today? wtf is going on lol
Can someone sum it up please
It was up a running fine for a while. My server went down for matience at 2am est, tried to log on at 4am and it didn't work, tried to log on at 7 am and it didn't work. Got on for a little around 8, server disconnected, tried to log on, various errors, beta closed for the day.
