    It is, Crazyd.

Also, doubt you'll get to make that Spear with right at a day to go until end of beta 2. You would need 23 at the earliest to make it without significant luck. (At least, I was batting rather horribly on crafting items the second you can attempt them)

Figure I'll be on Armourer and Goldsmithing when beta 3 starts in a few weeks.

any idea on what to do with pyrite? all the combinations i tried with it didn't work, i got tons of it filling my retainer.

Is it just me, or are bronze arrow heads a bitch to make? i have been doing bronze needles instead and have a much eaiser time with them. Skill up rate is about the same, and the needles NPC for more.

Im lvl 9 Black smithing and failed at repairing my brass dagger a couple of times. It broke rather quickly on me because i was using it (dagger is lvl 18 i think) on my Gladiator which is lvl 14. Should i lvl BS more or keep trying to repair it at lvl 9?

Hey Anthony, what were all the synths you did to make the parts for a better axe? Mind sharing?

Do particular recipes get to the point where they no longer give skill ups, like they did in XI and that was what we termed as the level of the synth? Just a little speculation, but I'm thinking the oak chips recipe for carpenter is around lv5-7, based on the success rate in comparison to XI. Once I hit 5 each individual action seemed to have a very noticeable increase in success rate.

Ash Axe Haft - Ash lumber
Bronze Labyse Head - 3 bronze ingots
Bronze Axe Butt - Bronze Plate
Red buffalo grip - Red dye + Buffalo leather
    Animal Glue - Alchemy NPC

I don't have it made yet because I need the tanner 18+ to make the grip. If I find someone today with that I'll try to make it just to know what rank it is and if it's worth making.

If it's not at least 20+ I would just wait and make the iron one because it was a hassle just getting people for the Carpenter and Tanner shit. Hopefully finding crafters will be easier in retail. I'm sure once the AH is in it would help too because I can't stand going through the mess in the Market Wards.

Praying 16+ with the 1000g synth support I hope will be enough to make this thing with all the hassle it's given me.

    I think that's it.

    Edit-
The iron one is similar, I just never got the ores.

Got the Elm Haft, Non-colored buffalo leather, Iron Axe Butt, however was never able to get the head piece. I think I would have needed to get to 22+ to even make it.

    Quality / Skill ups

Yes they do get to that point, you can play with what your ending Durability / Quality to extend the skills getting from the item. I shot for ~40 /~.80 with cloth and got much better results skill point wise.

You also need to watch what the color of synth light. AKA starts as white and turns yellow then red then flashing green/red. If you wait when it turns yellow you'll turn it back white.

White - High/Standard Quality won't normally blow up
Yellow - Standard quality won't usually blow up.
Red - Quick quality won't always blow up. (Wait)
Green/Red - probably going to blow up. (Wait)

Not blowing up usually helped both quality and durability at the end. And watching the color of the light emmiting from your Tool really does help out.

Has anyone actually tested this stuff or are people just randomly guessing?

Well a little late to be testing now, but I ran thru multiple theory's... but anyone can tell you when it blows up you don't get the better results. No one really talked about what I noticed so I am throwing the theory out for Beta 3 testing. Regardless most people here did notice the different colors the tools emmitied and it could be part of the cue's they give to help out crafters.

Now to test this theory beyond me testing it will take next Beta to come out, I did get BS to 7 and Cloth to 10 before I ran out of money... Next beta will be easier on my wallet because they are turning Crafting Quests back on. I didn't really notice any of this till 2 days before Beta 2 ended. Originally I thought the light ment basically the same, but color told you what to do to not blow up... that was wrong. I didn't post here till I became fairly sure of my results.

Obsessing over the light lost me 12k gil... I'm pretty sure I am right. I just had to know what to do without just random guessing, cause the blow ups were driving me nuts.

When I crafted, I didn't notice any such thing. Which is why I'm wondering if anyone has actually tested it statistically. If there is any affect, it must be really small. The level of the synthesis and your crafting level must influence it by at least 10 times more.

One synth I had multiple fails and still HQ'd. Pretty sure level plays the biggest part, might be a similar HQ system to ffxi with a % chance based on level.

Cool cool... may continue to be random, but just give it a try in Beta 3... all I'm asking.

Oh I agree that crafting lower level items was the best way, but being a low level crafter having blow up craft vs smooth craft for no reason being 100% Random, then why make the colors on each craft attemt?

When I say blow up I'm talking about the "Pop" you hear when things don't go smoothly on Standard, Quick, Slow, Wait... selection.

Getting to finish craft attemt vs not and losing items isn't exactly what I'm talking about. I'm talking about "Pop" noise vs getting "Success" noise. You lose less durability & gain more complete % and gain more Quality %; when you don't hear the "pop". Can we agree on that part?

I took all crafts to around 15. Your thinger can look white, yellow, orange, red, or super wacky multi color. Multi color has a high chance of fail but also can result in epic success (40-100ish quality gain) which is exclusive to multi color. Your level and perhaps your tool stats are far more important in determining your chance of success or failure than buttons you push. I saw no difference whatsoever among the normal colors, though there might have been a difference if you controlled other variables.

Tender touch was by far the most op ability. Almost impossible to fail when slamming that with rapid.

You can't endlessly bold because you eventually get sparks, more sparks, and even more sparks which i am led to believe increases failure rate. Other factors cover this fact up, like the fact that if you fail at all during the synth you're more likely to fail on your following commands.

I agree you can't Bold all the way thru due to durability.

I agree if you Fail a few times you're more likely to fail following commands when you get behind on the Durability, but not just failing once. Paying attention to color did help me chose a command that I wasn't going to fail, and then getting a success you seem to help calm it down.

Basically my belief is if you do pay attention to when the color changes you can Wait at the right times to turn the color back to white which seems to be the best color for Standard and Bold. Maybe I'm wrong and barking up the wrong tree, just thought I'd ask for assistance testing a theory next Beta.

Tool and Level are very important, not to mention Item Level your crafting. I guess I'll drop it... but I was just thinking they might put more logic into the crafting then random chance and level. Honestly I was using low quality Tools looking for an extra edge... and seemingly I did find one. I don't have stats to back up my theory... but I do have a good memory. Not to mention I'm a programmer and looking for factors of "Pop" noise or Failure.

I didn't put too much effort into statistical testing since i expect things to change a bit.

Waiting just flipped the color randomly. That is a fact. So did all of the abilities, and the abilities could all be slotted at the same time. You could cycle endlessly through abilities with no durability penalty or consequences whatsoever. That ain't making it to retail.

Details of the crafting system have likely not been implemented yet. Using wait will probably be a way to let synths "cool off" and stabilize the elements in retail. With so many variables in the mix only controlled testing will be of any use. Otherwise it's all voodoo. I probably ran through 500 synths and the only consistent patterns were that multicolor =high risk high reward and failing leads to increased rate of failure. That and you have a high chance of success directly after a chaotic. My testing of the non- tender touch abilities was inconclusive. My testing of physical exp showed that it is directly proportional to quality. My testing of skill exp showed a slight increase of skill exp with higher quality on average, with no discernable pattern. Didn't notice any difference at all in failure or unstable rate between white yellow orange or red and nobody has released any data. Too many variables to say. If you just want to complete a synth your best option is always tender touch+ rapid spam. You can do anything you want during an attempt and the chance at skillup is always completely random.

This was all true as of the last beta. It could very well be different in the next phase and it will certainly be changed on release.

These things need to be tested in the next phase and on release:
    effect of each color
effect of sound tone (played with sound off i have no idea)
Probability of failure.unstable.chaotic.normal.success while controlling as many variables as possible.
    effect of abilities
    effect of crafting stats
    Effect of quality stars
effect of mainhand and offhand tools on each synth's success rate
    t
    That's just for starters.

Aye I agree... I didn't get to play with crafting quite as much as I would have liked; by the time I got around to crafting they closed down beta... I had to try out mining, multiple toons, classes and the like... I hope they keep the servers up like in beta 2 test for beta 3. I didn't really get much done on Beta 1... except crash my computer 25 times or more trying to mine.

The only thing I noticed with the colors, is the flashing colored one. Using Bold on that would give me a larger Quality amount than it normally would if I succeeded. But if I failed, it would go into an unstable state right away.

This looks a bit complicated than crafting in FFXI?
