Backing Up files from User Protected XP Disk (win7 or linux)

OK, so basically my sister-in-law's hdd died, it wont boot windows at all and the HDD failed several tests, so here I am trying to retrieve her pictures from it via USB enclosure. so i have the drive out and connected but she had a password on her profile so i cant get into her my documents and what not to retrieve her files, is there an app out there that i need to do it? or can i do it in win7 just by adding her credentials to my users?

You can try going into security and taking ownership of the folders, but if the filesystem itself was actually password protected you're fucked without the password. You can't reset or bypass that, as the password itself is used to hash the encrypt.
