Does the wii actually get a picture improvement with component?

I bought a cable, but I don't really notice a big difference actually... Maybe if it was 720p, but Wii only runs 480p.

I'm actually playing an old game too...

The color looks more vivid, but the image is only marginally smoother. (on a 1080p HDTV)

Anyways, don't want Wii Zapper anymore, and bought memory card + component cables.
