The PAL version runs in an awfully unoptimized 50Hz mode, meaning it feels like playing an obese Tidus on a low gravity planet.
Dunno if this can be circumvented by the emulator, but you'd bet better off getting FFX int (afaik text is 100% translated, and not with a fan-made patch - the game was just released with english text as an option).

Gotta try that someday, because your description of how PAL runs is pretty accurate.

I thought the JP international versions used English voices too and not just text?

Okay, lets just say that I am completely ignorant in all subjects as to how to acquire this translated international ff12 zodiac game and the tools needed to play it, as I indeed have little to no knowledge of ps2 ROM emulators and the such.
How would I go about procuring such a thing? I've read the thread and I am none the wiser.

-Download PCSX2 emulator (9.7 Beta has little to configure).
-Download a PS2 BIOs pack. (Might need these before you install the emutalor, I forget.)
-Torrent FFXII International Zodiac Job System (English patch). An English official release does not exist. I believe v.18 is the latest.
-Pray it works with your PC/settings and troubleshoot the problems.

Not bad for farming but I prefer the old version. Archer could have been much better if it still gave all that SPD...
Oh, really? That's kind of cool. I discovered Sash gives Spd+20. The earliest(?) you can get it is as a reward for gathering all the moogles to repair Salikawood's Bridge.

Gillie Boots are nice, too. I recall Def/Str/Spd+10? bonuses. Someone (maybe me) should compile some more basic information on weapon/accessory stats, locations and availability for Game FAQs. There doesn't seem to be much specific information translated into English on the differences between the two games.

I am wondering how one obtains the stronger items in the game, or what you obtain through the trophy hunts and Clan Rewards by rank.

EDIT: Also, what's the difference between items of the same name but with a different letter after them? Like I noticed two Blood Swords/Whale Whisker/Zodiac Spears on the LB?

They're the FINAL FANTASY weapons (by that I mean that there are 12 of them and when put in a certain order the letters after the names form "FINAL FANTASY") which are essentially FFXII's relic weapons.

They're stronger versions of existing weapons since they have a higher base damage and better status effects, i.e. Blood Sword A has 100% confusion proc on anything that isn't immune to that.
Some jobs can equip more than one but there is no 6 job combination that allows you to equip all 12 in a single playthrough.

Some of them are incredibly overpowered like Shikari no Nagasa F (which replaces Danjuro in this version, have fun farming that from Larva Eater) having 70% Death proc rate and Dragon Whisker L having 108 damage, 40% evade and 50% Disable proc rate.

Then there are the "invisible weapons" which are even more ridicolously powerful and can be equipped by any job on top of that: Seitengrate (bow, incredibly long range and highest base power of all weapons), Trango Tower (sword, extremely powerful for a 1h weapon and very fast) and Gendarme (shield, makes FFXI's Aegis look like a piece of wet cardboard)... TT can be stolen from Zodiark in this version and all three are available from absurdly low pop rate, invisible (yes, invisible), 1% chance random chests but you can get around that if you abuse random number generators (works on PS2, not sure about emulators).

I compiled the SVN the other day for some one: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C8JCNT34
this has PCSX-r3624 and GSdx-r3623 (SSE2/SSSE3/SSE4) as well as a couple other beta plugins. They have made some awesome fixes recently and it is sad they have not released another public beta yet :/ It is beta though so i suggest abusing save states.

    My set up:

    Stock everything else.

PS3 controller is working perfect now that I calibrated it properly... You just gotta' make sure you lay the controller flat and still when you bind each button or else the six-axis tilt shit could be part of your bind. Also, it's not inoperable after sleep mode like I thought. Just have to remember to F8 and turn that signed driver shit off when you reboot. Or donate a few hundred bucks to them so they can get Microsoft to give them a signature.

I've started my characters' jobs as so:

    Vaan: Monk
    Balthier: Red Mage
Fran: Black Mage (AoE spells + Inquisitor/Warmage is awesome)
    Basch: Hunter
    Penelo: Time Mage
    Ashe: Knight (to be)

Is that a recipe for disaster? I didn't care to use the Zodiac Spear this time, so no Uhlan. I was just really hoping the Ninja Swords/Daggers were a little better this time around when I made Basch a Hunter. I'm feeling like I should have made Penelo a White Mage and slap Ashe on Time Mage...?

I remember reading that there was a gambit in the international version that would make a character stop trying to steal after they were successful.

I can find no such gambit and it's starting to annoy me, please tell me someone didn't just make that up.

It seems kinda' unlikely to me as there's reportedly only 4 new foe gambits

I think those 4 foe gambits are all "# count" gambits... if I'm not mistaken?

Ive been looking for it myself, if its there I havent found it or it might not be obvious or translated correctly. what I do is set a gambit to target a foe with 90% or more HP and have that person as my party leader. so like vaan will assault a target, steal from it, then someone else will bash it and take it below 90%, vaan moves to the next target automagically and by the time he steals from them all, they are ready to die quickly. I turn it off on bosses and steal manually

Is there a way I could pull my save off my PS2 and port it to the emulator? (with a USB flash card or anything?) If there is a workaround that requires HDD I have that, too. I've done about every other hack for my PS2 (including the magical swap card/disc).
Don't really want to start my guys over, just wish Ps2 had an HDMI out cable >.>

Well, I found an answer to my own question. Not sure if it will work, but I'm hopeful. I think I'll give this a test when I'm home from work. Here is a link if anyone else is interested: -->http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/366481

As much as I wanted to play the international version, I've just finished the Lhusu Mines and I just can't take the slowdowns anymore.

Even with a good compatible processor and video card everything just goes into suuuuuper slooooow motion whenever anything of interest happens. None of the settings seem to help (it runs just as slow at 256x256 as it does at 1024x1024) and it's just not worth the frustration.

It's pretty easy to softmod a PS2 and play it that way.

Anyone got info on the Hunt Club Shops? Word is if each one has 10 or Atak has them all in the end the Zodiac Spear will be available for purchase. I'm curious if there's any other changes to their stock, so I know who to give trophies to.

EDIT: Also, is the secret shop in the necrohol nerfed? No high-end armors or whatever they used to offer sold?
