I did something similar but, i used my PS3 as a medium. (transferred save data from ps2 mem card to ps3 then copied it to a usb.)

It can be done and is not too difficult.

Yeah, something called FMCB (Free McBoot/ http://freemcboot.psx-scene.com/) can be installed to a memory card that allows you to run a variety of programs, such as ESR that allows you to play burned DVDs. The details are a little more technical than that, but that's essentially the idea.

There's a variety of ways to install FMCB to a memory card, but beware it will erase whatever is currently there. I had to resort to using this forum thread (http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58851) where one of the installers sold me a FMCB memory card for $15.

The setup I use is playing games over ethernet connected to my laptop by using a program on my memory card called "OpenPS2Loader". It allows me to play games installed to a FAT32 partition on my laptop's hard drive and there's no lag that usually comes with playing from the burned DVDs using ESR.

I have modded PS2. From what I understand, I can just burn it on DVD-R and play it on my PS2 right?

Pretty solid party overall. I recommend Ashe as BLM (highest MAG, second highest MP) and Vaan as SAM (katanas use STR+MAG for damage calculations and Basch has the lowest MAG, while Vaan's is decent. Vaan's STR is also higher than Basch).

Basch makes a solid Knight since he got high HP and STR and with a WHM and MNK in your party you'll almost never need him to heal so Basch's low MAG and MP are mostly irrilevant for that role.

Fran and Balthier have crappy stats overall but the highest VIT and SPD respectively, though neither stat is very important with your job setup.

one thing to remember is certain classes get certain abilities and spells naturally with no need to unlock them.

Fran, Balthier, and Vaan get Steal
Ashe and Penelo get Cure and something else
Basch gets a fanboy and something else thats not as cool

    Ashe : BLM
    Vaan : SAM
    Penelo : WHM
    Basch : Knight?

One thing to consider, which also opens up a little more breathing room, is the job's gear. Mystic gear boosts MagAtk, Ashe has the highest, and it caps at 99. At one point or another you'll have excess/wasted MagAtk. You could let someone else with slightly weaker stats take her place fine.

Time Mage might be a nice addition. I've missed Berserk, Haste, and the such. Red mage get Disable/Slow but it wasn't quite enough for my tastes.

At what point (which weapon becoming available) would it be beneficial to switch a Monk's weapon to Pole instead of hand-to-hand? ...if ever. It's hard to use a pole at all now with both Brawler and Amber Armlet this early in the game...

Also, it appears at least 1 Embroidered Tippet and Gold Amulet are available super early in the game. I wish I had any idea where I got them from so I could possibly farm a few more of each, unless they were one-time-only chests. I tend to play turbo mode all of the time unless I'm fighting a somewhat difficult Rare Game or Mark. I miss a lot of messages, heh.

edit: What are Meteorites for? I don't recall these from the original version. I started finding them with the Diamond Armlet. Do they do anything other than inflict disease?

Also, thank god they changed Ninja Swords' elemental alignments, so they aren't 100% dark based...

    just got the sword of kings, actually got the NM to spawn that you can chain unlimited times on his summoned zombies. L1 speed and a long chain later after tweaking gambits and only half paying attention and Im a few hundred k richer and + 8 levels, lisc board almost done for everyone, too bad I cant do another ; ;
after this Ill hit mirror knights for new gear and then do some of the hunts for some shiny and continue past where I played the normal version.

This game is so much better than 13, I dont know what they were thinking when they made it, but characters in this one are very likable and the battle system allows for automation of mundane tasks without taking full control away, very much likey.

Chain 350+ farming diorite, err, Hell-gate's flame and I've only one to show for it. I must have gotten everything else for tournasel in under an hour with L1 but this is just brutal.

Here are a few things I had read/learned/experienced with this version that might throw you off a little unless you know about them ahead of time.

There are a total of 4 Quickening licenses of varying cost on each job's license board that don't carry over to other jobs/characters. Once you purchase the 3rd Quickening for a specific character, the 4th tile will vanish. The bad part is that some of the Quickening tiles act as bridges over to other abilities and if you don't pick the appropriate Quickenings, you might permanently screw yourself over for a certain augments/spells/abilities/weapons/armor licences for that character.

In the same manner, you need to be careful about who learns to summon which Espers. The Esper licenses act as a bridge over to those floating separate license tiles that are otherwise inaccessible. Often, one Esper will bridge more than one job over to an isolated license tile. For example, I had to make a decision between giving Adremmelich to a Monk to access Cura + Raise or to a Hunter to learn Shades of Black. Some decisions are pretty easy... but when it comes to the higher-tier Espers, you're sometimes making choices between top-tier spells for one job and an ultimate weapon for another. If you're lucky, an Esper will only bridge one of your characters over to something...

Some Marks have been buffed up noticably. I was fighting Feral Retriever and upon getting him down to maybe 10% or lower, he Balanced my party and one-shot everyone in one fell swoop. I've heard of some other Marks being a pain in the ass in similar ways, especially with the limited HP of mage jobs and the sort. Also, keep an eye on the Archeoaevis dragons deep in Zertinan Caverns... instead of being level-30-ish, they now vary from 80~99 or so. You will notice them now one-shot the cockatrice they are fighting with that they normally fight with for a while. No idea why they decided to adjust them so hard... or wait, didn't they drop some bazaar loot that's required for some ultimate weapon?

As for emulation, my system has been running it extremely well, save for a few instances... Sometimes, very occasionally, shit slows down a little bit while selling off loot to a merchant. Also, some rooms in Barheim Passage has severe polygon shearing for me, making it almost impossible to navigate without relying entirely on the minimap. This seems to only be a problem for the areas that are dimmed from low power levels. Lastly, Basch's level-3 Quickening "Flame Purge" has the most insane lag duing the last part of the animation where the flame blasts the swords and fragments them into a billion pieces. I'm waiting for my tower to start smoking every time I do that Quickening.

I feel like drop rates have been upped on some monster families' rare drops... contrary to AlexRuzhyo's post above. I haven't even begun farming anything really, and I have quite a few top tier drops just from killing shit in my way without chains.

Oh, lastly, there appears to be a lot of description errors. I would assume it could be blamed on translations, but a ton of my Mote items have their descriptions mixed up. Shock Mote says it does Scathe, Reflectga Mote says it does Haste, etc. Also, some spells are described as being AoE but are actually not, like Water.

There is a fix for the extreme fuck-up in Barhiem. I played through it first fine, but then I made some adjustments and that day returned for Zalera once I go the key and experienced what you described.

I don't recall exactly, but it has something to do with clamp mode. I believe i turned it to "off" and it was originally on "normal". I made that change with the game up and it reverted to how it should run. Been running smooth ever since.

My version (9.7 beta) looks a little different from this but the set-up is the same except resolution, Clamp Mode, and 6x Anti-Aliasing:

EDIT: 6x Hell-gate's flame took me 2.5 hours RL time, I broke the chain a couple times to kill Crypt Bunny (and got the one High Arcana I needed, yay) so I don't know how high it went. I quit needing to wait for Giza to turn to dry, I confused how many snake skins I needed.

OK, I tried for the hell of it for a few Hell's-gate Flames since I was nearby... Chain 150+ and none and I give up for now. That item just blows.

P.S. Can you even buy Teleport Stones anymore? I'm 'Paragon of Justice' rank and they still won't sell any at the Clan Provisioner...

edit: I found a little glitch/trick for the Roblon hunt, especially if you're not strong enough to fight it on top of all the skeletons around it. Fran is my Black Mage, and she happened to have a [Foe: Water-weak] [Water] gambit. The odd thing is, even though Roblon is immune to Libra, she knew it was weak to Water and she ran up there to nuke it as I stood under the ledge, safe and sound. Roblon doesn't move and just nukes back, no skeletons are spawning since they only do so around the party leader. She's just nuking with whatever I put in the [Foe: Water-weak] gambit, using charge when she gets Fear'd, and curing herself occasionally from his weak-ass nukes... which he only does as she nukes him since he's repeatedly losing hate on me for being so far away during all of this.

Think you need certain Key Items to add the rare drops to the most monsters. Not sure if Hell's-gate Flame can drop right away.

You know, I'm a dumbass and that dawned on me just moments afterwards, but I didn't want to say anything and let it get chalked up to luck/drop rates... heh.

I still have some questions unanswered! I have just arrived at Phon Coast and have completed every single Hunt available thus far...

    1) Where do you get Teleport Stones?

    2) What does Agate Ring really do?

    3) Where do I get 2 more Embroidered Tippets?

    1) Only Shop i can think about is Guild Shop of the Elite Guild ... maybe gotta talk/update your rank/status at Montblanc (spelling?) so you can buy them.

    2) It nullifies the weather penalty/bonus as in Fire dmg won't be halves while it's raining and thunder won't do double dmg while it's raining etc. Not 100% sure about this but that's what it felt like. I didn't find any specific info about what else it affects ... but would be nice to know indeed. :/

    3) In the regular FF12 you been able to steal em of Coeurls & buy em in Old Archadis, but however in IZJS you can no longer steal and buy em. Now it's a rare Poach of Coeurls and also you can get it of 2 chests 100% now:
    - one in Nam-Yensa which ya prolly got
    - one in they Feywood @ Antiquity's End (only 1 chest pops here with a 25% chance)

The flight from Rabanastre to Bhujerbah has teleporter stones in their shot, as well as some other "uncommon" items like Baccuchu's wine. They're 200g each, the same price as the flight itself.
