Oh my god, Flame Purge makes my computer melt every time. My system plays the rest of the game beautifully with no problems, but that Quickening is the bane of its existence. My FPS drops to like 2 and the resulting sound would make me lol every time. Something like a retarded robot having a heart attack while simultaneously getting raped in the ass.

But yeah. The 'zodiac job system' is what the game needed from the get-go. While it can be full of potentially regrettable permanent decisions, it adds a much needed element of difficulty/strategy that some of the original haters might do well to check out. It is definitely FFXII Hard Mode and I loved it.

Hard mode? Hmm, I don't know about that. Different mode, certainly.

I'd go with hard mode depending on the setups you choose and whether or not you go with "this shit looks cool for protagonist #3" or "I just spent 3 hours on gamefaqs lets fucking do this"

Everything is relative. "Zodiac job system mode" is harder than the standard "everyone is a carbon copy of eachother and can equip/cast anything mode."

    And this is where I say it's not due to trango tower, the new F. I. N. A. L. F. A. N. T. A. S. Y. weapons, the new bow, etc etc
Oh, and quickenings being more convenient to use to use (not eating up your MP)

Very few games are going to be difficult if you're playing with a walk-through/guide in your lap. You're most likely not going to end up with any of those new weapons or an optimal party unless you are... as if the original best weapons weren't strong enough. I'll give you the new Quickenings mechanic, but I don't think that outweighs the severe weapon/ability/stat/armor restrictions placed on characters by the jobs.

Either way, I'm not going to bicker with you any more here about whether or not the zodiac job system adds any challenge to the game. Thanks for your input.

Ironically I got all of that aside from the bow and I've never used a guide for any of it... heh
And anyway, I did a guideless LLG using only a single firefly for a strong portion of the game (because I didn't know where they were in IZJS) and a Lv3 black mage without any special stuff is this strong in IZJS, notice I don't have faith on and I'm not using firaga (only fira) and other various means I could be using to power this up further if I so wished to. It's easy to break the damage limit and kill nearly anything before it can kill you even at the base level.
I imagine that it is possible to do so much damage in this version of the game that anything that was remotely challenging before can die in seconds.

The game isn't in any way hard. (and yes, this is more powerful than casting the spell under the same circumstances in the original version)

Break moves are really beastly too if you want to cheese late game marks and there's way more lore augments on the izjs grids to beef up your attack / magic power. Overall though I still think I had an easier time with the original, but that's probably because I grinded way too much and never really bothered much with farming mobs on my izjs file until I could start getting ultimate weapons.

That would probably make the difference. Even though you're restricted on your abilities in IZJS, everything the classes do... they do better than in the original game. Steamrolling everything is a piece of cake when your black mage has 16 magick lores instead of 5, etc etc
And lets not forget that since you can actually break the damage limit in this one, super buffing yourself isn't pointless this time around. I've seen a friend pull off over a million damage in this game... it was disgusting.

So after lurking this thread for nearly a year, I decided to finally download PCSX2 and all the FF12 Int. iso files. I burned the iso files to the disc, and tried booting the image via pcsx2, but it keeps shutting down. Anyone have similar problems? Any recommendations? I tried switching through different GS plug-ins but it didn't help. Thanks

You don't need to burn it to a disc, idk if that's causing a problem but you can just run it from the iso directly.

I wasn't sure if I could run it directly through the iso because it's broken up into 16 zip files and it wasn't allowing me to extract them into one folder without a Burn to disc option. I'll try again when I get home. I reallyyy I wanna' start playing this, I didn't give ff12 an honest try (beat the story but did minimal bonus content) so I'm anxious to hop back in. I think it might be my pcxs2 plug-in configuration (didn't toggle it, but their could be conflicting hardware issues).

Along with what niiro said, there was a settings guide somewhere in this thread for the game, I just don't remember how far in it was. Also it is amazing.

You don't want to extract them all to a single folder just extract them all to one location and they'll compile into the one file.

This is a bit off topic but does anyone know if SE has some suggestion email or mailing address for suggestions?

I'm sure SE gets tons and probably may not even read most such mail but I've always found it odd they never really bothered localizing international versions outside of Japan when Capcom makes $$$ releasing the umpteen version of Resident Evil 4 (will have its next version released on the PS3/Xbox 360 this year) or Street Fighter 2 or 4 for example.

I do know there is a difference (with Street Fighter for example - balance changes generally come with the new updated games and most people switch immediately. Though they do try to add some new characters too) and Resident Evil 4 is always on a different platform (Gamecube, PS2, Wii, PS3/Xbox 360) but it's still odd IMO that SE hasn't attempted to release it outside of Japan. Localizing shouldn't be too much of an issue (only some extra text from the bonus stuff?) so does that mean they're just afraid of losing money due publishing/media costs?

Though of course I don't mind using emulator (plus I like the save game editor for FF12 too) but it just seems odd that they never really attempted to localize the updated versions.

FFX-2 and FFXII both have major changes in their international versions (FFX and below not so much so it's understandable.)

I think they explained their reasons a bit ages ago with X-2 Int, don't really remember though. Anyway: don't bother ^^; You're not gonna change that by sending them e-mails. It's like their general rule to not release int. versions outside japan for all their games.

The only thing we ever got over the Japanese seems to have been Ruby and Emerald weapons... but I'm sure they eventually got their own legitimate version to play since then.

I'm having trouble getting it running with PCSX2 0.9.8 on my Phenom II X6 3.3 GHz and a Radeon 6870. I can't make it to the first save point with patch 0.20. The game keeps crashing after about 10 minutes, regardless of if I'm on the title screen paused, or actually doing something in the game. I can't get it to boot with HDLoader either on my JP PS2.

Not sure of your PS2 setup but if you can use OpenPS2Loader, I was able to play it without error through a network share off my laptop's hard drive.
