XIV borrowed quite a few from XII, but XI's animations don't resemble anything in XII that I can remember.
It doesn't apply all the time (how could it?) just certain combinations. Like Penelo would use Mithra animations (great sword particularly comes to mind), Fran would have Elvaan, Balthier had some Elvaan (iirc Gun stance looked a lot like it) and Hume animations etc. I think some characters with a Katana shares animation with XI etc.
Been a while since I looked at XI and XII's animation in depth, but I'm certainly there are more or less direct links with XI's animations.
I'd say some of the poses were similar, but the animations themselves were wildly different.
XI's animations across the board were extremely rigid compared to XII's.
Stuff like attack poses and some basic attack animations were (though really, aside from Quickenings nothing was really impressive animation wise). XII's animations were rigid as fuck too for general battles. XI and XII had a lot in common including general movements.
And obviously it's not 1:1, I'm not saying that and never even nearly implied that. For all the stuff I saw that was like XI, there was enough that wasn't. I thought it was cool as hell which is why I remember it.
iirc, the animators who worked on XII also worked on XI: RotZ, but that was about it?
kinda really liked XII cos of the way magic 'flowed' from the caster to the target, which has never been done before in modern FF
Honestly, the Zodiac Spear change is dumb as hell and it makes me not even bother with it in Int to be honest. I actually would bother with it in the original version because it was the easiest to obtain of the "ultimate" weapons and would usually hold me over til I got better stuff... now its just kinda not worth the time it takes to get it.
well if youre patient enough theres always the Cure RNG trick to help with that
Needing to be patient to get the Zodiac Spear is the problem... its a complete waste of time in IZJS. Its not that good.
EDIT: To explain further... Holy Lance is so damned useful since much of the time you'll be fighting holy-weak stuff and for when you're not Gungnir + Oil or Dragon Whisker L usually beat the pants off of Zodiac Spear anyway.
All of them are easier to get too. (and can generally be obtained earlier)
well if its not useful then theres no point getting it unless well.. completionist sake..

Ashe samurai, and I made panelo hunter, although uhlan would also work I think.
I think anyone can be Uhlan and Hunter (especially Hunter) and do pretty dang well. Penelo's technically the worst choice for Hunter but the class is so damn good that who cares? Especially since Penelo has the coolest katana stance.
