Man this makes me wish I had a ps2 that could play imported stuff, or a backwards compatible ps3.

This is actually something I'm really curious about; what's the baseline like for emulating PS2 games? I remember trying to run some random games awhile back on a PC with a quad-core and a low-end, yet modern card as of a year ago and didn't even get past the intro lol I wasn't sure if I just configured PCSX2 horribly wrong or if the requirements were steeper than I thought.
Ah well, I'm sure the info is available somewhere, just a matter of finding it. It's not too terribly important since I can play games on my PS2 from my computer's hard drive, but I'm wary of recommending emulating to people not knowing how much it takes.
My archer just got the random magic and it seems very OP at this level. Maybe I'm just getting lucky on the spells though.
for emulating its like 70% CPU and 30% GPU. if you have a bitchin quadcore it runs good but its still going to get a bit of slowdown randomly, I havent figured out how to fix that yet, even with my quadcore running at 70% across the board. I know people with 6 core HT i7s who play with no lag at all so your experience may vary
I think I'll give it another shot then, by all means it sounds like I should be able to run something even if it's in a tiny window.
Configured right or not is a huge difference on psx2 ... when i first started it it was lagy and sound cut of and/or slows down along with the fps ... your best bet is to download the newest ver and configure it acording to a guide.
If you are interessted i'll send you over a guide to set it up (unfortunatly i can't post URLs ... lol). Also some sites where you can get newest FFXII Int. Version in english and newest PSX2 Emulator~
EDIT: Actually if it crashes right after starting a game maybe you didn't set a frame cap? (it's usually caped to 60 frames, when i removed it i had basicly 150+ fps but seems PSX2 or my PC couldn't handle that so it simply crashed upon the 1st ingame animation.)
Is that a DX10 card? The current DX10 Drivers for PSX2 are not to bad and kinda helps to get emu running on not so strong CPUs. Overall i'd say you should give it a try to run it on basic PS2 resolution (512x448 ).
@ Sonomaa, that'd be nice. ^^
EDIT: Is it just me or did all Tier 2+ Hunts got alot stronger? I remember killing Ring Wyrm with ease on the regular FF12 ... now it was like a 20-30 min fight and he hits like a truck lol.
account done
got my deathbringer, knight ashe is complete
also went down the wrong passage and got 2 spells I shouldnt have yet and upgraded shields and armor for a few people, also an 81 damage katana that inflicts slow
woot
I have the emulator, but could benefit from point pointed in the right direction for an english International version of the game...
Also, here are some of my specs, and I'm wondering if it would run well enough. (I'm assuming the emulator wouldn't really know to use Crossifire X though)
AMD Phenom II 3.4 GHz X4
8GB RAM
2 Radeon HD 5700s, 1 GB each (Crossfire X'd)
Got:
AMD Phenom II 2.8GHz x4
8GB RAM
1 Radeon HD 577X (1gb)
I run it fine with the default 1000x1000 resolution. It drops down to 50~55fps during some cutscenes and 45~50 with a ton-o-mobs or heavy weather effects sometimes but nothing all too noticeable. It doesn't stutter as it just skips frames (some cutscenes have slightly slurred speech) and there are some shadow issues in the CS.
As for the .iso itself, you can either search for a prepatched version (v0.18 is the latest?) or download and apply the english patch yourself, which I don't know how to do.
Also, download the 9.7 (beta) PCSX2 emulator as it seems to run it fine. The 9.6 crashed heading to Estersand for the first time int he same exact place as well as suffering from heavy fps issues in the cinematics.
Think it should run just fine, even without Crossfire. I guess you're using the 965 BE?
I had the same CPU, RAM and almost same Graphics Card (5850) and been able to run @ 1920x1080 resolution with 1920x1080 background res (should be equal to like 9x SAA) which gave FFXII some PS3 flair lol.
You can get the latest Ver. 0.9.6 of PSX2 here: http://pcsx2.net/downloads.php
Some decent beginner Guide for PSX2: http://snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=46103
Also you need a PS2 bios. I'll upload a package of all known PS2 bios versions later on.
Newest FF12 Ver. 0.19 can be found here (bit down the page): http://snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=46608&page=3
@ Sonomaa thx!
EDIT: PS2 Bios uploaded => http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IUWZ4QHE
Thanks a ton, I appreciate it!
(yeah it's a 965 BE)
You're welcome Miko.

so, w/o reading this thread, this game is in English? I know the voices are in english, and so are their names apparently from the screenshot in the post above me, but is everything else, or is all the other stuff like weapons and licenses in japanese?
