Mouse troubles

I bought a Razer Lachesis about 2 years ago and it's been working great until today. It's starting to lag and at times the pointer will freeze altogether forcing me to unplug/plug in the USB a few times. When it's frozen all the buttons work fine. I plugged in an old USB dell mouse and it works perfectly.

I downloaded the newest firmware and drivers but it hasn't helped. Is my laser dying? If it's still working but lagging, is it something other than the laser?

I have a very similar/same issue with my Razer Mamba (except I had issues almost from the start).

Firmware/driver updates have done nothing to help, I'm returning it when I get round to finding a proof of purchase (my mum brought it in US for xmas and doesnt have the receipt anymore, making it very hard ;; ).
