    Blue screen of death

Well I get a Blue screen of death everytime I run a SC2 even on the lowest settings. Earlier I got a blue screen trying to delete a character in FF14.

I wanna make sure what this is and if its major or minor, I just bought this PC from someone in buy-sell-trade thread and I wanna make sure that this isn't fixable before i yell at anyone.

three of those dumps are from SC2 one of them is from trying to delete a char from FF14 if you could look at all of them and see if theres any discrepncies or similiarities i would love you long time

Hi, I gave it a look and it seems that your crash (at least the one dmp I checked) was caused by (likely) dxgkrnl.sys and apparently this is a known problem which happens while gaming and there is apparently a microsoft fix for it, but it requires genuine validation so no idea if you are good there or not (if you aren't I can help you over PM). There is a related thread here that lightly touches on it although the problem I'll link below, but the persons problem is they can't download the Microsoft fix for it (though in the end they got it and apparently it fixed it - they didn't say much so hard to tell):

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...4-2f9f5ecf7160

You didn't say what operating system, but I think the dump file did say 64bit windows XP (saw it say Win7 on one line though). At any rate though that should point you in a good direction you probably just need to download the fix for your specific OS and hopefully that'll get rid of these BSOD's. If you need more help with it shoot me a PM I'll do my best to assist ya and research this further. Good luck with it! BSOD's are so freaking annoying to troubleshoot sometimes.

Edit: Also, I found this nifty little free program while trying to read your dump file. Antivirus didn't have any flags on it, and it doesn't require an install if you use the .zip'd version (it runs in place w/o installation) so it's probably ok. Much easier to read than Microsoft's dump check utility for sure.

Sorry for two post in a row, but the other would be too unwieldy if I combined them.

Moving on, can you let me know what your rig looks like build wise (hardware and OS), and let me know what all your temps are running. I'd also like to know if you recently (like 1~3 days before the BSOD's started) replaced any parts like RAM or changed timings/overclocked (or even removed an overclock) or anything else like that. Have you upgraded/rollback'd drivers for your graphics card yet or tried updating directx yet also, and is your BIOS the newest available (it's a long shot, but worth checking if all else fails)? If the Microsoft fix leads to nowhere then definitely move on to these steps if temps and ram are normal. If that is a dead end then you can move on to memtest86 on the ram sticks overnight (probably long enough) and see if you can find any faults in the RAM.

Additionally, you should go ahead and run a stress test on the video card if none of the above give any leads. You can find some links to programs and some information on what sounds to be an identical problem to yours here:

I'll be looking in my free moments for more info on everything for ya. /offtothenet ^^/

Edit: Just checked the remaining three dumps and yes they are all faulting at that same address in that same .sys file.

Edit2: If you aren't on Vista (don't believe the MS fix is avail for anything but Vista) and it's not a heat/driver/directx problem then it seems likely that it is a faulty GPU from reading other threads. Definitely want to check everything else and have that be a last resort though. Not much else I can look up on it for now until I hear some info back on the diagnostics requested above. When you are back and doing these test shoot me a PM so we don't have to keep bumping this page to the top.

OS is Windows 7 ultimate 64 edition i think the OS is pre-validated i'm not sure if that counts as legit enough

Should I DL that file if I'm on windows 7 or would that not be compatible

upgraded driver. It looks like it can run on ultra on everything now though, maybe the driver was the fix.
