How Do I Switch Default Download/Install Drive?

Easy question, probably. I just got my new pc in today, and it has two drives. One is a pretty small SSD that's got the OS on it and some room left over, and the other is a decently large regular HDD.

The SSD is C:, and the other hard drive is D:, and everything is installing to C: by default. Which is bad.

Is there an easy way to make things install to D by default?

Also, is there any reason I shouldn't move my Program Files/Program Files x86 Folders over to the D Drive? I wouldn't think it'd be a problem, but it'd got my graphics card info in there, and I don't know anything about PC's, and I don't want to bunk up my GPU by doing something stupid without checking first.

For installing programs and the like, usually you can manually direct it to where to download. Takes only a few seconds, that's how I've been doing it.

For downloads of sorts, in firefox: tools>options>general>save files to>point it to a folder on the D drive.

You'll basically have to do it manually, in XP and maybe vista you could do this with a simple reg edit.

Windows 7 (I'm assuming you are using this) tries pretty hard to stop you doing it. Just manually choosing where to install programs is by far the fast and easiest option.

There are guides on how to hack change it but it is complex and time consuming.

Here is a guide on how to move your user folders, this can be pretty handy if you have large sound / video files that you wish to store in the myMusic/Video folders.

Hmm. Too bad there's no easy way to just do swap the two.

Oh well, thanks guys. Thanks for the tip too, I have a bunch of mp3s stuck on my SSD that really had no business being there.
