    corrupted win7 install?

i don't know what the deal is, but several programs that other people can run on 7 64bit, i'm not able to

bitpim is one, it installs fine, but won't run, says there is a missing dll file. MSVCP71.dll so i download the dll, put it in my system32 folder and then try to register the dll with regsvr32, well i get an error saying i can't register that dll as it may not be compatible with 64bit or something

so i found a program RegHelper or something, but when i try to run it, i get an error saying comdlg32.ocx is missing, but it isn't.

any help would be great, this isn't the only program i've had trouble with, first it was the ff14 benchmark but new vid drivers fixed that. and this not the first dll that i'm unable to register

reinstalling windows isn't an option atm, maybe later on when i pick up an SSD drive, but atm i've got too much stuff i'm unable to backup.

    thanks

Do you have all/most windows updates installed? the "other people" that these programs work for, are they on the same os and VERSION 64bit? sounds like you are trying to run some programs that are 32 bit windows on 64 bit and they are missing some dlls that may have other programs required to give those dlls, not just downloading the dlls themselves. What are the EXACT error messages you are getting?

If you can compare installed programs and updates with those on the laptop, that might help.
