apparently supposed to get a fix in the 260 series drivers, present certified drivers are 258.96 and were released around 3 weeks ago

It's w/ most Nvidia cards, but is worse in the higher end cards. Nvidia stopped supporting XI a long time ago so it's why the issue hasn't been resolved & isn't on their top priority. Can barely play XI in crowded areas unless you like 2-5fps

Turning off shadows or SLI will fix nothing, it's a problem with the way the drivers attempt to render sprites because of DirectX 7 architecture. Lots of other older games having the same problems with the new nVidia cards. Supposedly 260~ will fix all DX7 problems including XI, but who knows when those will get pushed out.

You can replicate FPS issues just by standing around hitting gear swap macros; redrawing your sprite your will drop your fps like a brick. The reason you get low fps in highly populated areas is cause the card is having a heart attack trying to render so many sprites.

It's confirmed that a fix will be in the next driver update. I have no idea when they is. It's probably going to be a couple weeks.

We have a fix which I verified resolves the issues. It will be in the next driver release based on R260 branch.

Looks like there should be a new driver on Wednesday for anyone else who is having this problem.

an update on this (because Im building a computer with one and getting one soon for myself) is that the driver is forthcoming.

basically the next beta release should fix this issue.

I love my galaxy gtx460, it's faster than a stock 470 and on par with the golden oc'ed version, but FUCK the issues it has with FFXIV. I can't return this card and get a lower end radeon which performs better just for one game when shit like crysis 2 will be due.

Wait, the 460 has the problem with 14 too? That game is made for Nvidia! I thought this thread was only for FFXI (maybe that was a typo?)

I can confirm that the GTX460 (EVGA's stock 1GB version) does NOT have a problem with 14. In fact it runs pretty damn good, better than my 4870 despite getting a slightly lower bench score.

This is frustrating. I want to play a bit before 14 but I can't even alt tab without crashing, and windower doesn't work at all. =/

I'd love to help with the windower problem, but I won't have my 460 until next month at the earliest, and nvidia's drivers should (better?) be out by then...
