Correction: a POL process starts... in task manager. It never starts on screen. Then it disappears after 10~ seconds.

The system restore points I used/set months ago when I fixed this before are gone due to Windows auto-pruning. I manually removed ALL windows updates back up to July, and reset my graphics drivers to every version they have for my Optimus card. Still no dice.

There are two updates that cannot be removed through Windows and I can only test if they are the problem by reformatting. I'm probably going to try to reformat or plug in a fresh drive in a few days if I can't figure out any other solution.

I *can* get the Alpha to work though. I know it probably doesn't narrow it a lot for you, but hopefully that helps.

As of now the Alpha doesn't work anymore. Half of the Playonline Splash screen loads then it freezes and gives me a Windows error "POL has stopped working"

I put in an XI View update to change the UI and have done nothing else since the Alpha was working last night. I have no clue how that could affect Windower...

EDIT: Alpha works again after a reboot.

FFXI and a GTX 580 in the same sentence just sounds wrong on so many levels, lol..

Having trouble with windower after installing the new beta drivers. Haven't been able to figure out anything yet. It crashes the second you touch the window with the mouse after loading the game proper (not pol). The game window also doesn't display "windower enabled". - edit: it doesnt display windower enabled on the game window normaly, my bad on that one.

I don't use fraps. I uninstalled the drivers for now till everything gets figured out and went back to 260.99 Got LS events tonight. I did try it briefly in the normal game and it ran like butter in front of Joachim in Jeuno. Can't wait till it works with everything.

if the drivers arent WHQL, my personal experience is that windower only works when fraps is also active

Verified, 266.35 beta is perfectly smooth for FFXI with SHADOWS OFF, everything else can be turned on. I used 16x AF, 8x AA, bump mapping mip maping, high quality textures in driver setting, etc. all smooth. Only hiccups when there's like 10 spells being initiated, even then it doesn't go below 25 fps. I'm happy. Makes me lolz, cuz i just bought a radeon 4850 for this game. Oh wellz.

Yeah, installed these today, finally ffxi runs how it should with an o/c 460.

get 16-20 fps in front of horst with everything maxxed and 2400x1800 rez and full shadows, and no more lag city when avatars are around.

The driver is acting strange, when i first load up the game it runs at max fps pretty much everywhere. Then I went afk and left the pc on for about 2 hours and returned and turned on the monitor, now my fps is hovering around 20ish and can go down as low as 10-15 fps. Areas where I used to get capped FPS are now 10-15, such as next to joachim or AH. Strange, i wonder if it's some sort of memory issue.

Are you running blink me not? Turn off alwaysothers and it will unlag instantly. Dunno if the fixed one is released or not.
1200x900, with 2400x1800 background rez, shadows on high I get 20 fps around horst. Setting shadows to medium it's solid 29 everywhere I go. Upping the rez to 1600x900 drops it to 25fps, still damn good.

Don't think AF and AA will do anything for FFXI anyhow. I read all that does is affect the UI. Best you can do is double the background rez for some fake AA. Maybe even triple it.

    I know, necro-bump.

Was thinking about trying XI again, but last time I played I couldn't stand the 5'ish FPS in any area that had more then 2 ppl in it. Has this issue been addressed yet?

Yeah, 3 or 4 versions of the drivers ago. You're good. I get 29.4 fps on both screens dualboxing.
