Its not explained yet, but my current theory goes as:

Simon finds the enchirideon, and from it he finds the crown and some how causes the lich king to come to our world. The world responds, escalating to nuclear catastrophe, with the crown the only thing keeping him alive (mean while the rest of the world is mutating). Some where along the line the lich king is imprisoned, and the world moves on, as Ooo. We get random aliens visiting at some point, people mistake them as gods (oh my glob), and well, the rest is seasons 1-4 lol.

Sounds about right. If he wishes the lich king never existed, then there would be no mushroom war, no Ooo, and what we saw at the end of the last episode is probably a result of the world being "Normal" from Finn's wish.

I always assumed that "glob" for "God" was:

1. the authors' wanting to swear, but of course they can't in a children's show.
2. the word "god" just morphed into "glob" over time.
