    Probably dealer auctions, versus a public auction. Used car lots buy/sell cars at auctions that are typically restricted to other dealers only - much of the purpose is to shuffle around trade-ins and the like, not to have a hundred potential customers there to buy cars below retail.

    If, however, you happen to know someone that works at a dealership, they may be able to get their buyer to snag something for you.

    From the sounds of it I think you'd be better off buying a used Civic or Nissan than getting into the whole restoration shit.
