Except the president circumvented congress by calling it a "conflict" instead of a war then pressuring congress to continue it by repeated threats of a Mushroom cloud.

Too this day Congress has not declared war on either Iraq or Afghanistan.

and with that I'm done arguing about the two illegal wars. just thinking about it makes me rage hardcore.

Can't wait til the GOP and the republicans take back power in the Whitehouse in 2012 and Congress in 2010.

Seems like the only time we can get polarized enough to demonstrate is when the opposing party is in office.

They still (except for Russ Feingold because he is a fucking badass) voted to fund Bush's incredible folly because they are spineless dickheads who care about their own political careers way more than the American people, and WAY more than grunts in the military.

    Sad thing is archi..

Russ Feingold is up for reelection and from all reports he might be in trouble with the emergence of a Teabagger in the race.

He'll be fine. Wisconsin is too progressive (yeah you read that right) to get tricked by teabagger bush-league fear tactics and bullshit.

What's sad is that Sarah Palin is still news.

She has no fucking clue how to run the country. She has no fucking clue about anything. She's just a dumb bitch, like Kate Gosselin, who wants to stay relevant after her fifteen minutes of fame.

I want my fucking USA back where people actually give a shit about the best interests of those they are supposed to protect/govern/manage and not their own fucking careers/pockets/bank accounts.

Every business in this country is run by fear of losing money, jobs, and reputation. What happened to the fucking balls people used to have where everyone challenged authority and provided incentive for change?

Yeah, what is up with this shit?

The more of this kind of garbage I see, the less likely I am to try and justify republican rhetoric and ideals. This shit is so stupidly inherent and dishonest, and the rapid spread of such disinformation as propaganda is so utterly infuriating, that it hurts the process as a whole. I wish genuine conservatives would denounce this shit, but I guess they have more important things to get worked up about, like how the little delusional fairies in their head are trying to take their precious, precious guns away.

    lol

It's like I say stuff, and then I'm always right. It's actually a little disconcerting.

Hey now, give the forum some credit. There are quite a few literate people here who are also intelligent enough to simply not reply.

Obviously I'm not one of them, but still, they're there.

Cadsaune, this is completely off topic, but since you're in the thread I have an econ question. What's the difference b/w the govt. spending and injecting a trillion dollars in the economy and the govt. just lowering taxes and leaving a trillion dollars in the economy?

Lots of differences. The econ 101 answer is that assuming output stays the same (ignoring net welfare losses from market distortion), that the government is fiscally balanced, and ignoring social questions, there is no difference. But that's such an unsatisfactory (and incorrect) answer so you need to focus your question a bit for me to give you a better one.

edit: it's incorrect even from the econ 101 perspective because market distortions result in welfare surplus loss as long as the quantity of goods sold is changed due to subsidy or tax, which is pretty much always the case. This is a pretty sophomoric observation though, and the answer is like, wow really complicated and I'm not sure I can really answer it! The web of monetary policy, financial markets, commodity markets, investment, is really complicated and then you need to talk about all this from a social perspective as well which makes this a hugely daunting question that I could write for pages about and not really feel qualified to comment on. Here's an RSA video which is tangentially related:

    Late to the party...

This is more in response to the claims that there is or is not an inherent anti-American/Western culture sentiment amongst followers of Islam.

An odd and disturbing fact: Bay Ridge, Brooklyn on Sept. 11, 2001 had the streets full of people cheering and celebrating as if something was won. It is now, and then, a predominantly Muslim area. You could have seen the towers from that neighborhood.

How do I know: I lived there.

    On another bizarre occasion:

My wife (girlfriend at the time) grew up in Bay Ridge. A middle-eastern man rented one of the two garage slots behind her parents' house. He was devoutly Muslim. One day I had parked my car in the drive way, blocking him from getting out.

He proceeded to blow/lean on his horn constantly until I came out, and continued to do so as he watched me walk to my car, get in my car, turn on my car. I have patience and understanding for the most part, however this really got to me as he no longer need to be leaning on his horn... the fucker saw me just in front of him. So I toss him the double-bird (that is two middle-fingers) and he flips his shit.

He leaps out of his car ranting like a maniac (locked my car door- fuck you the guy was nuts) and shouting, amongst other things, 'You will pay' and 'Your country will pay'. It was a really disturbing experience as this was early 2001 and tensions like this were less overt (don't forget, the USA has a history of fucking with the middle east for decades).

That's right, because an ignorant neighborhood means the entire nation is full of intolerant douchebags.

I forgot, because of the KKK everyone in the South is racist.

Or, everyone on the West Coast is a homosexual.
Or, everyone in the Midwest fucks their cousin.
Or, everyone on the East Coast is a stuck-up asshole.

While we're making sweeping generalizations, where are you from?
