    Comcast or U-verse??

So, i've been with Comcast forever. I'm pretty sure they've capped my download speeds, but w/e. Their customer service is pure hell and i've been considering leaving for awhile. What's the verdict on U-verse? I read there were latency issues that some gamers could notice, but has anyone made the switch and regretted it?

This is the lesser of two evils for me, but comcast never gave me too much trouble. I can say it seems they bottleneck my bandwidth every now and then but i have gone over their 250 GB/Month a few times and never been called about it so.... I take that as a plus. I am biased on this tho because i hate ATT, so very much.

    Er...

What gives you the opinion they've 'capped' your download speeds?

Can you run this and post the results?

    http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/dif...haperProbe.exe

    Also your speed tier..

As somebody who also lives in East Lansing for a while, I could tell you that Comcast is unfortunately the better service around town. I've heard nothing but horror stories from my friends living in the neighborhoods above campus with AT&T. I've always either had Comcast or I had a service provider through apartment complexes owned by DTN or someone else. They always had packages similar to the dorms where you had 'spartan.net' and I have no idea. I don't have to deal with either this coming year because I'll be at chandlers and I think they provide you with it.

Go with comcast, it can't possible be any worse than AT&T.

I used to work for their "U-verse" department and it was pure hell, nothing but complaints from people, AT&T oversells their shit, if they have capacity for 100 people in a neighborhood, they'll sell to 200, they don't give a shit. AT&T is just a shitty company overall, their service sucks, the way they treat their employees sucks, it's just a terrible company, if it wasn't for iphone I'd have nothing to do with them.

And do not fall for their cheap prices, I'm not sure if they still do this but when I was there they would draw people in with very low prices because they were trying to expand, remember you get what you pay for... saving 10-20 bucks on your bill over other companies is not worth the headache.

Comcast will cap you at 250GB of bandwidth transferred per month. AT&T is for now unlimited.

    Take your pick.

I personally have Comcast, a couple of good friends have U-Verse. After comparing at each others' houses we all felt like the AT&T cable quality was definitely comparable and a better deal, but the Comcast internet service was much faster/consistent.

I personally prefer sticking to Comcast, they do some stupid shit sometimes but their previously horrid customer service is taking some decent strides of improvement. If nothing else U-Verse is best used as a threat bluff against Comcast, if you call and say you want to cancel your service since you're moving to AT&T they'll typically throw some free shit at you to keep your business.

I work at TWC.. and I get a LOT of people coming back from UVERSE here in San Antonio because they had shitty service and the people they talked to did not care to take care of them or fix the issue for that matter. Go with Comcast.

No they don't. I've said above i've go over their 250GB a month without being turned off. What they do is if you go above 250GB/m you go on a list, out of those people on the list whoever is going way above (I really think they check how much people upload the highest) 250 they give you a warning call. After that warning call if within the next 6 months it happens again you THEN get turned off.

I will repeat this again sense people missed it, i have go over 250gb/m about 5 times now (Normally around 5 to 10 gb over or so) and still have yet to get a call to tell me to chill the fuck out.

Really? Cause around here, if you go over 250gb they start charging you $1 per gig you're over the limit.

Also I've had U-verse for about a year. I get consistent 2Megabyte downstream, all day, no problems. Never ever have I not been able to get my max when I wanted it. With this speed I've downloaded a terabyte in a month. AT&T didn't say shit.

    Pretty good I think.

No idea on comcast since I don't think it's ever been available around here, however my choice is between Roadrunner and U-verse.

I've had both, Roadrunner is shit. Absolute shit. We'd have 1-2 hour downtimes at least twice a week, sometimes at peak hours. We went a couple a weeks with an intermittent connection which TWC refused to fix because "everything looked fine from their end, check your router" which was the default answer for everything. Eventually they came out to look and their was a problem with the signal.

Switched to U-verse and personally I love it. Internets been down maybe 2-3 times over the course of 4 years and never for more then a few hours. Very consistent speeds, no problems at all with any games - and I've only been on the 3mb/s plan... Moving up to 12mb/s in my new house.

The only problem I have is that their 2wire wireless router is shit. Doesn't have much distance for the wireless signal, works well wired though. Connecting another wireless router with DMZ fixed all the problems.

There is absolutely no market where Comcast charges extra for going over the cap, let alone by the gigabyte. That is not a policy and never has been.

I love my U-verse internet, amazing speeds and very few hiccups honestly. With how bad Time warner has been for cable tv (both in costs and problems), we are going to give u-verse TV a try as well soon. I think we have their MAX18 package internet btw.

    I recently moved into a house here in Dallas and realized my ultra fast FiOS service stopped a couple miles before my house... I almost cried ; ;

U-verse has a stranglehold on where I live and I'm nervous as fuck to go with them. First off, I will broadcast video on my website, sometimes in 720p, and their 1.5 upload makes me cringe hardcore. Second, I was able to get FiOS people out quickly to install after I signed up... it only took a couple of days. With AT&T, I've been in my new place for almost 2 weeks now and it STILL hasn't been installed... I ordered the service on July 8th and the soonest someone could install it was on the 25th.

As someone who demands a lot from their internet connection, I'm getting bad vibes already. Oh, my other "option" is TWC which I would never go with in a kazillion years, especially with all the talk now that they might lose the ESPN networks.
