I will settle for a patch with translated menus, items, and weapons to tide me over during those long two years. God knows I have struggled on with less.

Am I the only one that didn't like the Tactic Ogre series because its sense of false difficulty by forcing you to spend too much time on things like HP grinding and traveling over real tactics?

I love tactics based games from Front Mission, to FF... but TO was always such a boring buzzkill.

I love the little things about the series. The way magic is managed and used. The way the attack animations are drawn (how many RPGs actually have proper use of rapiers outside of like... Breath of Fire 2?). The branching plots. The secret characters. The sex-specific classes which encourage a balanced party. THE MUSIC~!

I can't wait for this. I've been begging for a new TRPG and the DS was letting me down with all of these cutesy, light-hearted ones. I need to get back to some political and religious meat.

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/22/sq...north-america/

We didn't have to wait long at all to hear about a North American release for the PSP Tactics Ogre remake. Square Enix has already announced a localized version, under the game's original title Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

Square Enix's announcement offers additional detail as to exactly what's new in the revamped version. 3D maps have been added, along with updated graphics and 15 new tracks from composers Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata. In terms of gameplay, there's a new "Battle Skill" ability that players can use alongside the game's existing magic and special abilities.

There's still some waiting involved with this game, as Square did not offer a timeframe for its debut.

As opposed to no difficulty for FFT.

Hey, Weigraf was difficult, as was the beginning of the game when you have nothing but daggers, chemists, and squires, and a single cat scratch could cleave off 75% of your health (I mean the VERY beginning - first 4 grinding fights or so).

Wiegraf can be soloed, even though it takes some contrivance to do so, and you could finish it in around 10 hours or so based on some corny speed challenge shit I saw on GameFAQs a long time ago. You couldn't really do any of that B.S. in Tactics Ogre. Anyway, I am referring specifically to the original TO and FFT as they were "contemporaries" and the Ogre Battle saga games that were actually titled "Ogre Battle" are more strategy-oriented.

Oh, ogre battle is far more difficult than FFT. Its not even up for discussion. Let us Cling Together was fucking hard, and one of the biggest forms of difficulty comes straight from the death system.

Oh, sure, you don't have to revive them before you finish the mobs off, but have fun with that useless ghost/zombie/skeleton, unless you're shooting for an angel knight.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on PSP has a major change in
the way players develop characters. Classes earn experience points
instead of individual units. For example, if you use an archer,
wizard, and rune fencer in battle (just like the screenshot) those
classes will earn experience. It appears that male and female
classes have their own experience tally since Priest and Cleric are
    counted separately.

All warriors/ninjas/wizards/etc. in your party are the same level.
When you add units they inherit the party ’s collective class
experience, so new hires are more useful right when they join.

Characters earn skill points. These can be used to assign four types
    of abilities:

Support -– passive skills that boost your attack or the Archer’s
ability to see an arrow’s trajectory. Passive skills also allow
characters to equip weapons their class wouldn’t normally be able
    to handle.

Action -– these skills, like the Archer’s Tremendous Shot, take TP
    (tactical points) to use.

Command -– instead of a specific skill, these give you a group of
commands like the Cleric’s Divine Magic, Wizard’s Dark Magic, and
    Ninja’s ninjitsu.

Special -– these are reserved for monsters.

By using skill points you can enhance your team with abilities from
    other classes.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together also introduces a male version
of the Valkyrie class called a Rune Fencer and the Kunoichi, a female
    ninja.
Here's link to that article + the screenshots on there as well:

Its like they're custom-making this game just for me.

sounds good... too bad I don't have a PSP. not quite sure if this is worth getting one for, either... but it's mighty tempting, especially with the battle system changes.

hopefully the game's rebalanced a bit so you don't have to train after every battle to make sure your units are all the same level. hated how everyone basically had to be the same level at all times in the original to keep the enemy at your level. though with the class experience, even if they don't fix that particular flaw, it sounds like training won't be nearly as annoying.

There's probably a fucking ton of other PSP games you'd love too, not like you'd just be buying it for one game. Can't wait for this too though, didn't play the original but I've always wanted to, hopefully they give an English release date some time soon.

So let me get this straight, with the revamped class system, units don't have their own levels, but rather they share the same experience already gained for that particular class?

If so, sure beats the hell out of having to stop for a couple hours to grind new units up to a usable state.
