You enjoyed the PSP FFT more than this? Masochist, ain'tcha? All that slowdown made the game nigh unplayable for me.

The slow down was pretty damn crappy, but after a few hours you get used to it :/
War of the Lions had massive slowdown, terribly butchered sound effects and an unreadable translation.
LUCT has zero slowdown, amazing music and one of the best translations I've seen.
The only two things I dislike so far are new jobs starting at level 1 (sup level 1 Ozma a mere handful of missions before the end of the game) and optional battles in Chapter 4 having overleveled, non-scaling units.
Also, TO is older than FFT--it's actually been called its "spiritual predecessor."
loving this game so much right now, I can't put it down.. Just what I needed on a portable right now. On chapter 3 just wishing there were more chance for random battles. Running between two spots trying to get an encounter gets old.
Was surprised by the crafting option.. makes this game so much more of a time sink, I love it. +1 gear is always worth it too.. gives a SIGNIFICANT boost in stats plus new equipment passives.. Anyone know if there's a way to level up crafting skill or raise success percentage?
I love the tactics story but having never played an OGRE game this just caught me by surprise.. I don't know if I can ever go back to Tactics now.. This game just does everything better imo.. except maybe the shop/menu functions
50% slowdown isn't massive? Oh boy...
Its fucking older; much older. Its the grandaddy of TRPGs and without it, there'd be no Tactics genre. You must respect, and this is coming from the biggest FFT fanboy on the planet.
Yes, the 50% slowdown was massive. 50% slowdown in the fastest game on the planet is massive when you compare it to the original. Play the PSX version, the emulated version, or the PSN version of tactics, then play the PSP. Its pathetic. The slowdown is immense and the sound quality took a massive nosedive. I wish they'd convert the original and put it on PSX to avoid all the terribad port problems.
The same team that made TO made FFT. SE just came in and said "Noooooooo...MYSTERY~ hide the numbers!" which is the only real difference between the gameplay in the two games.
Spoiler: show

Nigga be trippin'
Lol, see:
Worst part is after I finally beat that fight after like 2 hours of playing, I didn't have high enough Galgastan CF to recruit her... I got that up and did it again lastnight pretty easily though after leveling up Canopus a little. I just left 2 archers and 1 healer at the spawn and made Canopus, a Rogue and a Valkyrie rush straight to her as fast as possible. Made sure to throw Quickening and Attack Up on Canopus and one shot dudes on the way to her corpse, kill Nybeth asap with Slumber Shot (should be able to 1 shot him no problem with TP built off killing people on the way over there). If he summons more units you're probably outta luck, since the first batch he summons seems to always have an archer and warriors that can wade through the river, so if he does you might aswell just restart. My Witch was real handy too, jump her over the river and she was able to land petrify and charm on some of the units Canopus didn't kill with 100% accuracy. Just make sure you delay reviving her as late as possible, so you have enough time to clear out the immediate units that will target her. None of the ones across the river will be able to get to her. Bringing Heal II and Exorcism scrolls is handy too, since then anyone can heal her up and get rid of the undead units.
Fastest way is to, strangely enough... have units of that clan die. I hired a few Galgastan Wizards (never used them so they were only like level 6) and just started a random battle, killed them all with my Rogue and then retreated. Repeat entirely too many times to slowly raise it. You can check around how much CF you have by hiring a Galgastan unit and checking their loyalty. I think you need 50 for Cressida so if you get the 40-60 loyalty message for a while you should be good. I ended up getting it over 60 though in a couple of hours of doing it at a rather slow pace. It's rather boring so I wasn't paying much attention, was just watching stuff whilst I did it so I'm sure it'd be faster if you actually focused on doing so.
This game is fucking awesome. I just got to that woods there where you can go hunting and lvl up your chars all crazy like. I'm trying to lvl up other classes then the first few but it's such a bitch. I'm lvl 14 in a lot of them and random encounters constantly murder the new classes.
I wonder can we Adhoc this game? I'd love to play against some people and see what some other people do for strats and such.
It sounds obvious but... taking few (or even one) class/character in to random battles levels them up ridiculously fast. I took my 2 archers by themselves in to one random battle, stomped everything effortlessly and they got 900 EXP, which made them go up two levels (was already close to leveling up, though). You can just drag one low level unit along and hide them at the back whilst your good units take everything out and they should shoot up.
Honestly though, the game gives you far too many usable units for each battle, so it's not really a problem to just throw in one useless unit and keep them in the back whilst you progress until they're caught up. I often take 8-9 units to the 12 man battles I'm on at the moment and they're still a cakewalk.
I'm guessing it's buffer room in case you have a bunch of mediocre units, so you don't have to worry about making everyone as strong as you possibly can - given how each individual unit doesn't matter as much as they did in FFT and all. The only fight I've had any trouble at all with 8/12 units was a random in that big bridge map. Not so much because the individual enemies were hard - there were just a fuck ton of them (must have been something like 20ish of em), they all rush you from high ground and kept coming in waves faster than I could kill them. Reminded me of the FFT random Monk battles, lol.
Has anyone found any way of making mages good? My Ninjas rape pretty much everything that isn't a dragon, and my Dragoon can usually one-shot those with Dragonslayer. Berserkers don't hit quite as hard, but the AoE on Berserk is awesome for taking out clusters of enemies that try to gang up on you. My Wizard on the other hand, whom I've been raising since the very first battle of the game just sucks balls. His best spells don't even do 1 Katana hit worth of damage, his movement is crap and the status spells aren't that useful now that I kill things so fast (pretty much the only time I've ever used Petrify was once on my own units when they got Charmed and I had no way of healing them).
At this point the only reason I keep him in my party is to keep the class leveled, in the off chance I'll eventually get a much better NPC Mage whom I can pass his skills to. I'm guessing it gets better when his elemental skill is higher, but that shit levels so slowly. I'm in Chapter 4, using Fire spells almost exclusively (outside the odd Dark drain/aspir/status when necessary) and he's still Rank 1 on it.
I didn't use Wizard/Enchantress, but I've since started using a Witch who is pretty handy. Only trouble is, as you said, damage can be kind of pathetic on some stuff with high resistance. I have her dual wielding high INT weapons (currently a 10 INT spellbook and a 5 INT hammer with augment darkness+1 and a free charm when used) now which has helped a ton though, she can do fairly decent damage now thanks to that. For the most part I use her for statuses though... I currently have her using Fire, Earth and Dark magic since she started with all 3 of those. Fire and Dark get by far the most use, with Attack Up and Breach (def down) in Fire and all manner of damage and status effects in Dark. Earth is pretty much exclusively used for aoe slow/petrify on rare occasion.
Edit: here's just some random damage numbers from the sidequest fight I'm in now, first is a rogue with low res and the leader is an equal level berserker with normal m.def.
The tier 2 of the indirect spells is aoe too, so I can often bunch enemies up with my rogue and then aoe them all for some nice damage.
With the way damage on spells works, each tier just adds a set number it seems. Word of Pain II does 15 damage more than I, and III does 30 more. So they'd be 113 and a measly 56 with the first tier ones. But Meditate gives me around 20 MP every turn and that's only at rank 1 +2 from equips so I never have to skimp on MP.
Double Edit: Oh, and I guess landing Dark Averse beforehand would help quite a bit too. Since neither of those have it on them.
God damn, Dragons are epic. I want to make an army of them.
Anyone wanna try this on Adhoc? See what kind of 2p shit they added?
