You can put points in whatever you want really. You only get so many spaces to work with so go after the abilities you want to you. Plus I think just about everyone do a complete do over on their points once they get 30. In the end you will be expected to do Controller duties so be sure to spec your controller load out accordingly. I think essentially both will do a lot of the job you want so customize your style the way you want to play. If you are dead set on Illusionist then by all means go for it. Personally I'm cherry picking what I want from that tree and focusing on Telepathy and I'm hitting up a lot of the higher Iconic powers to give me permanent stat boosts which gave me a noticeable difference.

I went telepathy because I liked the crowd control options more on that tree. The freeze ability especially gives me time to kite/kill things when I'm running around solo.

I did some instances, like Area 51, and I honestly had no idea what the fuck was going on.

Yeah nobody really seems to unless you're in a pre-established group. Basically I go into alerts and just follow whatever generic directions the quest gives and blow shit up. In the early ones in particular everyone was pretty much DPS and we just blew through it all. Later on you will definitely be hurting if you don't have a healer and controller. If you just go in with random people are join the first available it might be a good idea to give out some basic instructions so people don't fly off and do their own thing. Just staying together and fighting together can help a lot, but when you have to go activate 20 terminals over a massive area it becomes a lot harder to keep everyone in place.

Then there's the PVP arena, I have no clue about those I assume it has the same general concept, but you beat the crap out of opponents to and do things to screw with them and increase your score.

I'm finding that you definitely need to run some of the "easier" hard alerts first to upgrade your gear before jumping into the tier1 stuff... even then you still might lose the first few times. Also I played with a group last night where all 4 of us had voice chat and it was awesome... we were able to get a lot done until my voice chat crapped out if they can get the voice chat ironed out that would be fantastic.

The game's difficulty amps up a lot at the end game. Around the time of Oolong Island and definitely at Bludhaven it becomes a lot more important to know what you're doing. It can be hard if you're new or don't have a group of friends to go with.

PVP is also a lot easier when you have people you know and you seem to queue up a LOT faster teamed up with somebody else.

Anyone else have a problem with their video settings reverting to the default after you log out? Getting annoying having to set them up every time I log on.

edit: sound also cuts out after the post-instance cinematic sometimes

So I'm on a pve server and I recently got into the legends and arena pvp fights. Now this is actual fun pvp. Not the gank fest of level 30s camping level 5's. In one night of legends I'm about halfway to unlocking Bane... I may hold out and try and get Joker though. I'm 22 currently on my Fire tank and I'm busting out the level 24 pvp gear. I made the switch from Martial Arts to Staff on my toon and it's so much better. I can easily bust out high chain attacks and the damage output is so much better.

Now I'm assuming if you have pvp gear it will benefit you in arena fights. Do your stats carry over to Legends fights too? Or is it all based off of your Legend you're using?

Bane is pretty damn beastly. I actually just unlocked him, but I've felt his wrath plenty of times. I'd also like a friend code of somebody has one to spare, but they seem so rare.

Just need to find out if stats carry over on Legends from your character. If I get all this pvp gear there isn't much point in doing Legends as much afterwards if the gear means nothing.

I'm like 99% sure it doesn't, and if it does it's at a reduced rate. But it does in Arena, which is just as viable as legends. Plus doing legends will get you marks of victory later which get some of the best weapons in the game. At least I think they're some of the best. I haven't really seen any eye popping weapons dropping from instances or duos.

Hmmm then I will probably be unlocking Bane then, getting tired of getting my face smashed into the ground by 3 v 1 and not being able to defend myself. Playing as Robin makes me feel like a $2 hooker that hasn't paid her pimp on time and now I'm getting pimp slapped across 4th Ave.

I actually don't mind playing as Robin, but yeah, when you get rock smashed over and over by Bane, you kind of want that retribution. Earlier this morning (or late last night) I managed to piss off Daedalus from the Exiles. So, Harvey, feel free to break his face extra hard for me until I get some time to play my villain, level him, and do it myself.

Yeah I'm thankfully 9/10 on Legends battles, the only loss is where I came into one already started and we were down 250 to 700. I like to get right in the middle of it all and just go nuts, it's put me in the top 2 DPS nearly every fight I've been in.

Competition definitely gets a lot more coordinated at 30. When I was teamed up with Daedalus he was calling me terrible because I wasn't jumping right in to get myself killed like he was and trying to come up with a strategy. So I just sat on my hands and let his butthurt grow to epic proportions.

Yeah I just go all kamikaze on everyone. Everyone else runs after objectives and things and I just try and interrupt people as much as humanly possible. I was pissing one guy off pretty bad though. I would run up to him, stun him, and run up the wall and hang out on the high ceiling, he would chase me, I would lose him and he would go back to something and I would do it all over again. I think we won that one by like 800 points.

Got my first piece of tier 1 gear yesterday (body) for my controller and joined a decent league. Duos are pretty easy without voicechat but it's a huge help for everyone to be on voice for some of the more difficult 4 man raids.

Also in regards to Legends PVP I bought The Huntress who I really like a lot, she can do crazy ranged damage with martial arts and has an AOE stun move which sends people flying in the air. I'm not one to go in and go crazy but more to run around and turn the tide of the 1 vs 1 battles by ganging up on people. Bane does suck though and he's inspired me to switch the weapon of my 25 fire character to brawling.
