Kaisha, you can either Tank or DPS in each role... but yeah, if you rolled Ice, you will be stuck in Tank. Make sure in your weapon tree, you pick up the Toughness and HP buff.. as you get more skill points, you can be multi classed into other weapons. I have martial arts and staff ( both provide the HP and Toughness buff, which helps ALOT ). Also, some Iconic powers are useful for tanking ( I think I took the +100 toughness one in there with a +50 HP buff, have to look again). If you got any questions, let me know. I went dual wield, which has toughness, but only restoration and dominance besides that. This MMO has a spec reset right? Also, I'm taking it Ice has zero healing capabilities. I'm still trying figure things out, and what constitutes as tanking abilities on this. Granted I'm only lvl7 currently.


Granted, the whirlwind strike move on dualwield is kinda nice. Very quick, can spam for more dmg than normal attacks, and has interupt additional. Is there a button to disengage your weapons btw, or am I stuck waiting.

you picked the wrong weapon if you don't want to button mash Kaisha, dual wield is the worst for it... best to pick rifle if you don't want to.

I have a fire tank which I love. It's all about setting fires and absorbing them. I also noticed the server population went from low to high pretty quick.

Downloaded the other night besides the obvious bugs its been really fun. Rolled a tech toon gonna try and make it into a troller I guess. Alot of the terms are new for me hope i'm using them right lol.

Initially went with ma fight style but I read it might be better to be a ranged attacker as a troller so switched to bow. Now I just gotta find a livelier league to join because it feels so empty playing by myself.

There is respect in HoD or JLA Tower ( depends on your faction ). As far as Dual Weilding, it's not that bad because you are replenishing energy more ( although, scales with your dmg dealt ). Ice does have a healing ability. Cryogenics is considered the "Tanking" tree, have a power called Deep Freeze if I am correct. Kinda like Ice Block from WoW... protects dmg and heals you for the dmg it takes. As far as disengaging, just have to wait a couple of seconds, or toggle your movement ( flying,speed,acro ).

For controller , Mental isn't that bad... I prefer gadgets because of the Dmg output it has. Any ranged weapons is preferred for a controller because you don't have to be on the front line... basically sit back, blast away while replenishing your parties energy without getting hit too much. Plus, Mental works better at a distance for some abilities... so it's a good combo.

One thing to remember though is that there is really no bad weapon combo...all of em fit together and help the class out in someway... some give abilities sooner than others, but none of them are bad to choose. Comes down to preference. I honestly just started a Gadget hero on PvE.... but if everyone is going to play PvP I can roll one on PvP

Fight For the Light gives you access to the hard Light power set ( another Controller set basically ). Character should have a token repec option when you open up the station store and click redeem... if not, start the character from scratch

Just do missions, they don't really progress beyond where you should be level-wise.

Hello, I've been playing DCUO since release so I thought I'd chime in here with some tips. As far as weapons go, unless your a tank, this game will absolutely punish you for using melee weapons. You can melee leveling up but once you get to group content your just going to be a liability to your team. They are awesome for PVP though. Dual wield is really sweet in pvp. As long as you skill into the charge block breaker you can use tap ranged to block break. It's really fast and an easy way to stun someone if they try to block on you mid combo. If your not a tank I'd suggest Rifle or Bow for alerts and raids.

If your going Ice don't worry about using skill points for defense/toughness or health. Ice can hit the defense cap of 5278 fairly easy with just gear once you start getting raid gear. I'd suggest specing into critical hit chance > critical hit damage > might at first. You'll do more damage and make leveling up a little smoother. Once you hit 30 start doing the daily challenges and duos til you get a full set of tier 1 armor. Then once you have that you can see where you are as far as Defense goes and respec accordingly to reach or get as close as you can to cap. Don't forget to meet the Dominance requirement for a raid before attempting to tank it. So spec there if needed.

Ragnell just do all the single player missions in your journal and you'll level fast. There is no penalty for doing them below your level. Also, go to all Police Stations/Night Clubs, depending if your hero or villain, and do the Booster Gold exploration missions. They're kind of annoying but easy exp for leveling. Races also give good exp. Don't kill yourself trying to Platinum them just get bronze and move on.

Took me a couple of weeks. It's not hard at all which is both refreshing and kind of a detriment. It's great that it's a jump-in-and-go kind of affair, but you don't do much socializing. My league is apparently still active on USPC on the hero side if anybody needs one. It's not too hopping at the moment, but I wouldn't mind changing that.

To reiterate what Bigby said, you definitely want a ranged weapon option for party play. For my level 30 controller I tend to use short range hand to hand or whatever when I'm out solo and I switch to hand blasters or pistols when I join a party.

I still need to rename my Thing/Human Torch fire tank.

Depending on how much you play, even if your real casual, it shouldn't take more then a week to reach 30. Getting to 30 is really just to get you aquainted with your powers and the basics. The real game starts after you hit 30. Skill points is where the real leveling lies and that's the true grind in this game.
