You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

oddly enough, I'm getting married at a church that's about a block away from where they filmed the cheerleading competition for Bring it On.

Moreover, if they only played one game of baseball a year, or one a week, you could maybe say they didn't exert themselves so much, but they play like, 160. That take endurance.

I just checked the facebook of my friend who is a cheerleader for the Orlando Magic, which if you want to get technical, is just "cheerleading at a game".

Honestly, I think she could squeeze my eyes out of my head with her thighs. Same goes for the girls who spent time doing gymnastics and dance professionally.

At high school level the stigma about non-competitive cheerleaders and activity is probably true, but any higher up and those girls are fucking built and undergo a LOT of stress and training daily just to keep up with something as nonchalant as waving pom poms around.

Completely anecdotal, but as an athlete in high school and not at all past that besides recreationally, I've seen more dance/gymnastics/cheerleading injuries than I have football, basketball, or hockey injuries. Granted, if I have the choice between being friends with a bunch of girls who can put their legs behind their heads or a bunch of guys who can crush beer cans on their head it's not a hard choice and the proportion is clearly skewed, but it's my own personal experience.

cause it's in the town my fiance grew up in, and he showed me it. It's at a popular spot at the beach so I can imagine it was all over the news there when they were filming it (which is how he knew).

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to imply that cheerleading at a game isn't hard/dangerous. Mostly, Bagel keeps talking about scoring (which they don't score cheerleaders at a game), when they do scoring at a cheerleading competition. And I think his view on it is what cheerleaders do in like, middle school lol.

Cheerleading is nothing but group gymnastics. If you think gymnastics is a sport, then cheerleading is. They are both scored subjectively rather than quantitatively.

While we are at it, golf is also not a sport.

Some high end tumbling done by cheerleaders.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-Sz6...eature=related

And that's one of the best cheerleading clubs in the world.

Your Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are nothing but show girls and that's not what the athletic part of the sport is about. When people ask me about Cheerleading the first thing that pops into their head is people screaming "Go team go!" with pompoms, but that is not what cheerleading is about anymore. If you can honestly say it doesn't take an athlete to do what those people are doing in the video, enjoy being ignorant.

Honestly what decides what is a sport really is revenue, if it is popular it will be called a sport and marketed as such. This is how paintball went from hobby to sport once the NPPL was formed and it was able to be marketed with bright colors and uniforms and not just rednecks in the woods. The same goes for golf and nascar, do i think either of those are really sports in terms of my own personal bias? fuck no. But they are marketable as all hell which makes them sports.

Once cheerleading is able to draw larger crowds then an anime convention then it will probably be considered a sport as well.

edit: and of course as popularity grows the levels of acceptable safety grow as well which would be nice for cheerleading

You mother fuckers can argue about anything. Jesus fucking Christ, I never thought I'd see so much serious effort put into an argument about high school cheerleading.

Sath's right about the strength of gymnasts and dancers, people really just parrot whatever they learn from their best pals in middle school and never stop to think. My mom was a professional dancer so I know growing up with her, but damn you kids need to take a women's studies course or something. Dancers and gymnasts being extremely strong is like the go to argument for feminists arguing that females don't engage in physically exhaustive activities.

The reason we don't want to acknowledge cheerleading as a sport as a populus is because they are females doing those flips, jumps and acrobatics. If the male/female ratio was more balanced or skewed toward the males, it'd be an entirely different perspective. That having been said, if you want to be a dumbass and argue that sports require some 'physical activity' or whatever the fuck, then you need to shut the hell up because competitive cheerleading does take physical strength, ability and endurance into effect.

    Even strippers call strippers strippers.

Yeah, but somehow I don't think sons call their moms strippers.
